Nope, this is what Blimey Studios (The team that would later become Slightly Mad Studios) were working on before they started on the Shift project. I think this is just finally being released.

Looks good!

Just read up on it on VirtualR.

Looks terrible. Looks worse than Shift. The cars seem to have no physics and are not connected to the track, whilst for a release trailer all they have shown is cars falling off the track, hitting the walls and people being completely unable to drive the cars.

Hence the reason I assumed this was a fan made mod and trailer, not a full blown game.

For the record, I was one of the few Shift 2 fans on here.

This and CARS look like they are simply not taking on any of the feedback or criticism that they have received over the last few years on board.

This was made pretty much five years ago, and it's obviously just being put out to help along with the CARS project.

And CARS? It's a pre-alpha for crying out loud!

There is far too much detail and graphics work been put onto CARS for it to be getting it's basic physics improved now. You never polish up a game like that when you are in pre-alpha stage. I hope CARS proves me wrong, but going by the reviews online it aint looking promising.

I don't care if it's pre-alpha or not, you would not put that much polish into a game's graphics and presentation in any pre-beta stage. It doesn't happen. If they are focusing that much on graphics now in a pre-alpha stage then the game is destined to fail.

You read the story about the guy who paid to enter the alpha and complained about how bad the handling and physics was and got kicked out of it, without getting his money back?

As I said, I was a fan of Shift 2, but just watching CARS community videos it just doesn't look fun.

EDIT

You know what, I'm gonna go buy the pre-alpha access for CARS just so I can be proven wrong.

Hmm... it looks ok but I really don't reckon it'll be that good. You can see from the steering inputs that it's very similar to Shift. Not a massive problem but not conducive to a race sim.

I'm sure it'll be lovely but interms of Ferrari games, Ferrarl Challenge on PS3 was always the best there was.

You do realise that EA kinda made them have the wacky handling in the Shift games right?

And besides, the handling in that vid looks far better than the older video.

Apparently, this build is using some of the C.A.R.S physics.

The cars and tracks look stunning, but with it only being 1 manufacturers, it'll be in the bargain area probably within 6 months and won't have the longevity. It worked 15 years ago, but things changed for racing games since GT.

The System 3 Ferrari game still rates as one of the best and I played that right up until I got rid of the PS3.
This does look good but knowing there's most likely going to be the same dodgy physics engine I'm dubious. Certainly wouldn't be paying full wack for it.

Project C.A.R.S is a community funded racing sim being developed by the guys responsible for the GTR games and the NFS Shift games.

Alpha and Beta stages of a game are pre-release builds of a game. Alpha being an earlier build of a game than Beta. Pre-Alpha and Pre-Beta therefore mean that the game would be before Alpha or Beta stage.

Generally, games developers don't release their Alpha builds, and only some release a Beta build (for example, Battlefield 3 had an open-Beta), but because pC.A.R.S is community funded, part of the deal is that paid members get to play the new updated builds as the developers make new ones.

Well, if you have 10 euros and a good PC to run it, you could get the pre-Alpha builds too.
