Re: 2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring
The ultimate drivers race. One of the few motorsport events left that hasn't tried to 'spice' the 'show' up, or try to appeal to the short attention spanned demographics of casual TV viewers and the average joe. It's exactly how racing should be, a competition, and the people just happen to come to watch, and that's what makes it so special.

Really, really gutted that I'm missing this. I'll try and listen into RLM on nightshift but it just won't be the same as getting drunk whilst watching it
Re: 2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring
Just saw on twitter that the British GT will be having a round at the Nurburgring this weekend. They aren't taking part in the N24 are they?
EDIT
They are doing a 60min support race around the GP circuit before the N24.

Re: 2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring
I'd have thought some British GT cars will be part of the N24 race?
I can't wait either. GT3 heaven!

Re: 2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring
Overnight rain in the Eifel Mountains continued this morning and conditions round the Nordschleife were still damp for the start of the second qualifying run ahead of this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 Hours. Some cars – including the N°11 Manthey Racing Porsche, winner of Thursday evening’s session – spent the entire session in the warmth of their respective garages.
The braver teams were rewarded for their effort, since the N°15 Black Falcon Mercedes SLS AMG managed to posta time of 8m27.363 (0.308s quicker than the N°11 Porsche/Michelin yesterday) at the very end of the morning on an almost totally dry track.
Marc VDS Racing’sBMW Z4/Michelin (Leinders/Paltala/Martin) also profited from the session to go third, ahead of the N°3 Team Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS which eased past Mamerow Racing’ssimilar N°26 car which was second-fastest on Thursday. The two Team SchubertBMWs have climbed to sixth and seventh.
The top 40cars will be invited to take part in the finalqualifying session later today. If the weather stays clear, this 50-minute run will decide the start order for the weekend’s race. The 40th place was clinched by the N°14 Porsche GT3Cup/Michelin (Manthey Racing) which posted a time that was some 20 seconds slower than the provisional pole-winning lap.
The final qualifying session starts at 6pm.

Re: 2012 ADAC Zurich 24 Hours of Nurburgring
To follow the first two ‘conventional’ qualifying practice runs (Thursday evening and this morning), the organisers decided to celebrate this year’s ‘Jubilee’ event by running a special ‘Super Qualifying’ session this afternoon.
The 40 best-placed cars after Q1 and Q2 were invited to take part in the 50-minute session. However, the regulations ensured that the top VLN-registered teams were guaranteed a place in the ‘shoot out’, which meant there were 20 or so places up for grabs in reality.
Cars started the session at 10-second intervals and were allocated two flying laps to attempt to post a quick time. Marco Werner (N°25 Audi/Michelin) was the first driver to tackle the 25.378km Nordschleife at 6pm, followed by Tomas Enge (N°6 Aston Martin) and Uwe Alzen (N°19 BMW Z4).
The SLS Hankook-Team Heico Mercedes posted the benchmark time on its first flying with an 8m22.930s (the best time prior to that was 8m27.363s in Qualifying 2). The N°3 Audi/Michelin (Marc Basseng) and the N°15 Mercedes (Black Falcon) then improved with times of 8m22.426s and 8m22.248s respectively.
Marc Lieb went straight to the top of the order with an 8m21.387s on his first flying lap in the N°11 Porsche/Michelin (Manthey Racing), but the first car to squeeze beneath the 8m20s mark was the N°26 Audi/Michelin (Mamerow Racing) which recorded an incredible 8m19.701s at first attempt.
The fight for pole seemed to be over but the second flying lap of Team BMW Schubert’s BMW Z4 GT3 harvested an 8m18.382s in the hands of Uwe Alzen who completed the session 1.319s clear of the N°26 Audi/Michelin!
Saturday’s second row will be monopolised by the N°15 and N°65 Mercedes SLS AMGs, while the N°20 BMW and N°11 Porsche/Michelin will start from Row 3. The best-placed Audi R8 LMS ultra (Team Phoenix Racing) was eighth fastest.
