Rolling Start Practice
Having been in a few lobbies where the starts have not gone smoothly, is there anyone who thinks they are having difficulty with them, and if there was time for me to get a practice lobby going, would they attend?

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Not being big headed or anything, but when I've hosted lobbies I give clear instructions and calm everyone down (ie speed limit and remind to give space etc).
Tonight was absolutely fine. No problems.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
I've raced in 3 different lobbies with 3 different hosts with 3 different start sequences. I think training each of the lobby hosts so you have a consistent start procedure would help everyone. Apart from that I think each start has worked well, it's just been the whole formation lap thing that has worked differently in each lobby. Tonight's "B" lobby worked the best so far for me.
Re: Rolling Start Practice
What was the procedure for B Lobby?
There shouldn't be any inconsistencies if the rules are being adhered to, surely...?

Re: Rolling Start Practice
The procedure is, and has always been 80mph lap 1, to the slow to 40mph before the last corner as everyone forms into 2 x 2 formation, and when the person in last says he is in place on the start line, the lead driver says the words...
"3...2...1...GO!", and nothing else.
This is highlighted on the intro guide video posted in the original post of every meeting thus far.
I'd have thought people actually watched it?

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Thats what happened in F lobby, but it still turned out a nightmare.
Race 1 had to be restarted due to a crash on the rolling start.
Race had to be restarted due to a crash on the rolling start, then god knows what went on after the go, perhaps some people didnt hear it, but the compression between the cars was crazy, I went from pretty much last to 3rd in the space of about 30 seconds.
I dont have the replay from race 2, as I ended up quitting after being smashed out, but I suspect it needs looking at.
If I'm honest, most of the rolling stats Iv'e ever been in, not just here, have been 'difficult' between lag on the GO, to some drivers hearing it, some not, some jumping it and so on, they almost always end up a nightmare.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
I always watch it cod I forget really easily :/ but correct me if I'm wrong please, but in the video I don't remember anything about slowing to 40 mph before the last corner, sorry if it is, I was just unsureCMGraphix wrote:The procedure is, and has always been 80mph lap 1, to the slow to 40mph before the last corner as everyone forms into 2 x 2 formation, and when the person in last says he is in place on the start line, the lead driver says the words...

Re: Rolling Start Practice
If every 1 just takes care like they do in most lobbys then there should be no issue rushing to the first corner like its mario kart is always going to end badly, ppl need to be more spacial aware not just looking straight anhead and always watch out for breaking early and given enough room, if you are quicker than the driver in front dont just push him out the way at the start fight clean to get through after the rolling start,
Rolling starts work please look at video in OP

Re: Rolling Start Practice
One problem which I have come across several times now is people in the middle of the pack slowing right down at the first couple of corners so they can get in half a lap at race pace to warm their tyres. This forces everyone else behind them to slow as well. All of these drivers then need to catch up the rest of the field who eventually slow right down to allow them to catch up. When the 2 halves meet there is always lots of heavy braking and this is where the collisions happen. If everyone just drove the track at 80 then there would be a lot less problems.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
I think it wouldn't hurt anyone at all if we all practiced more of these rolling starts.
One area which was an issue last night was the speed on the warm up lap. In both races, the recommended speed for the leader to travel should be 80mph, but it looked like TPR BOx in particular was travelling a lot quicker than that, almost racing speed.
Also, spacing was an issue because we had a restart in race 1 and 2 restarts for the second race. Problem you find is that when the pack is so tightly bunched heading to turn 1, drivers can easily forget their braking points and start plowing into each other. So people awareness and reaction times needs improving a touch me thinks. I did exactly the same on lap 1 in the first race at Hockenheim, and how on earth I didn't collide with SNR Andy, I have no idea.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Well I want to watch Race 2 of my lobby again but from what I saw the lead driver said go, the row behind had a good start but had to slow due to the no overtaking before the line, this causing the row behind them to slow even more and the same all the way the the back that going over the start line was about 5 cars wide
Re: Rolling Start Practice

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Tonight we have again had conflicting accounts on how to...
A) start the race
B) re-start the race after a safety car
This race we were instructed to just call go anywhere after the pit entry lane, not 3, 2, 1, go like I've be told to before. I also expected to form up and go on the start finish straight not in the last corner.
We were also told to call go on the re-start again before he last corner.
Could I please request that anyone who will host understands the rules.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Yeah If the very last car doesnt make it to the pack before say the last 2 turns we must do another lap of safety car?

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Frankly I thought ATR Dans driving was awful last night. Not giving racing room, turning in on people when they're alongside and jumping early at every race start and restart - which causes the monster crash with Crunk at the safety car restart and wiped out 6 cars behind. But apparently that's the cars behind being too eager. I wasn't directly involved with the incidents so can't lodge an SI, but if I was one if those taken out I certainly would be. Really unimpressed with the driving standards the last two rounds, a few individuals causing far too many incidents, not sure I wanna continue with it to be honest.

i defo think there needs to be a stewards inquiry here. As me and Plow Run Wide and several others where invloved in this accident. Which ruined the race for most of us.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Can you please make a stewards enquiry via the proper means then, and not clutter up the wrong thread .

Re: Rolling Start Practice
You did use his quote from a different thread, it didnt make sense as to why it ended up here. I took the "eager to get past" comment to mean it was happening during the race and not before the start.
I'm more concerned about the guy thats on pole in one of the lower lobbies and just stays on 60mph until he immediately touches the start line, or even goes past it, not just forgetting to do the countdown, but forgetting that he's got another 10 or so drivers behind him waiting for him to put his foot down. Its happened in the lobbies i've been in at Mugello and in race 2 at the Nurb.

I was also in race 2 at the nurb and it should have been a restart or an extra formation lap.
But anyway, I already have posted about this in another topic.

Re: Rolling Start Practice
Guys, please leave the race disputes and grievances out of the public forum. That is why we have stewards and race marshals, so please don't drag this into an area where everyone can see it.
Re: Rolling Start Practice
I made a suggestion in the ISCC "Suggestion Box" a couple of weeks ago about creating a standard script, each host would read this off in the lobby prior to racing. Thus standardising the briefing process and removing any disparagement surrounding the formalities.
I spoke with Hainsey and when I get a minute I'll knock something together this week, would it be worth doing something similar here do you think? (obviously it would require expert scrutiny by competition organisers before going to press but I think it's an easy solution)
