IROC 74 Series - Rules, Schedule and Registration

Welcome to the 2012 IROC 74 Series. This series is based on the golden age of the International Race of Champions circa 1974, back when you would see F1, Indy Car, NASCAR and LeMans' stars all in spec built 1973 Porsche 911 Carreras prepared by Roger Penske and Jay Signore. The car is a 587 PI/249 HP terror tamed only with the skill of the driver, as tuning is limited by the amount of "Sport" upgrades and assists are "off".

Rd 2, Dec 7 2012 : Infineon Full - 8/12 Laps
Rd 3, Dec 14 2012 : Road America - 7/10 Laps
Rd 4, Dec 21 2012 : Sunset Infield Club - 12/18 Laps

Build & Tuning Rules: 587 PI/249 HP Spec Build

Race: Flywheel, Brakes, Rollcage, Weight Reduction, Clutch, Driveline, Differential
Sport: Air Filter, Intake, Exhaust, Valves, Pistons, Springs/Suspension, Antiroll Bars, Transmission
Street: Ignition, Hood/Bonnet
Tires: Compound: Race Tires, Full Width Upgrade
Wheels: Hamann Edition Race
STOCK BODY (exc Hood)

Livery Rules: Must use the kit provided, sent on request. Your XBL Tag goes in the Gamertag area on both doors and above the windshield, your TORA number behind the rear wheel openings and hood center. Stock Carrera striping must be retained, but the car can be painted any color of your choosing.

Race Procedure:
Contact: ON
Damage: Full Simulation
Assists: Trans Optional, Normal or Simulation Steering,
ABS/TCS/STM/Racing Line, Braking Line: OFF
Race 1 will have a Rolling Start. Race 2 will be a standing start.
Safety Car will be called if there is an incident involving 3 or more cars. Safety Car speed is 60mph. If you are involved in such an incident it is up to you to call for a Safety Car.
Pit stops are not required.
All TORA Driving and Etiquette Rules will be enforced.

Grid Order: If 16 or less participants, there will be No Qualifying. In Round 1 Race 1, there are 16 or less, we will use Random Grid Order, and any week thereafter, if 16 or less Grid Order will be Series Points (Point Leader starts on Pole) If at any time there are more than 16 entries, there will be standard 5 lap Qualifying (out lap, 3 hot laps, and stop on lap 5) and Multiple Race Lobbies.

Race 2 of each round will be inverted order of that round's Race 1

I won't be able to race rounds 2,3 because I have final exams then, but I should be good for the other 2

The main reason for the lack of assists is to emphasize driver skill. The drag slicks further enhance that, as there will be a noticable reduction of grip on the first and last laps of each race.

One probable side effect of running laps in this car is improved car control in other series and events. When one gets used to a bit of skatiness, it makes everything else that much more controllable.

I understand skill but for guys like me that don't have the time to practice and learn the tracks before race time. Thus drivers like me could be a potential hazard and cause wrecks when not knowing when and where to brake. Yes I already tried driving the car under no assist at Sedona and I was missing corners and couldn't find braking points throught my test session. I did go back use the line as a guide to learn the track but after getting quick with it, I turned it back off and was 3 seconds slower and still missing some quick braking corners.

I love the idea of no assists should be great fun!

you can stay on drags, you're quick enough as is, might even it out a bit!
