Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Is this only for the last 2 races? Or has Kovalainen secured a 2014 seat with Lotus? I hope he has!

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
I feel sorry for Perez. In 2012, his second year he has one of those seasons a lot of drivers would never have (relatively speaking)... then wow McLaren comes about. How about that. Boom. Crappy car and he's nowhere to be seen. I hope he hasn't damaged his F1 career. Gringo.
Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Ferrari stopped Nico Hulkenberg from joining Lotus for the last two grands prix of 2013.
That is the hot rumour in the Austin paddock, as the two teams battle over millions for third place in the constructors’ championship.
The first rumour was that Ferrari, who have signed Kimi Raikkonen for 2014, may have encouraged the Finn to arrange early back surgery and miss Austin and Brazil.
Now, it is being reported that Lotus approached Hulkenberg to replace the Finn, only to find surprisingly that the German is still locked into his Sauber contract.
It was believed Sauber had earlier breached Hulkenberg’s 2013 deal by not paying him.
But Hulkenberg’s manager Werner Heinz told Sport1 radio on Wednesday that moving to Lotus for the last two races would have meant breaking a valid contract.
“Sure, it would have meant that,” he said. “But I also don’t think Sauber would have put obstacles in the way.”
The big rumour now is that the obstacle was in fact put in the way by Ferrari.
“Apparently,” read a report in the German newspaper Bild, “Ferrari took care of Hulkenberg’s unpaid salary, so that he could not be hired by Lotus.”
Sauber, a traditional ally of the Italian marque, is powered by Ferrari engines.
Indeed, it is believed Hulkenberg came so close to moving to Lotus for Austin and Brazil that he even had a seat fitting at Enstone this week.
“One can only speculate about the reason for the change of plans,” read a report in Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport.
“In Austin on Wednesday it was rumoured that Sauber paid Hulkenberg’s salary at the last minute.”
A report on the Italian website blogf1.it added: “According to our sources, the money came straight from Maranello.”

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
No prizes for guessing who won
Impressed with Bottas in the Williams. A solid 8th place finish & he deserved it. I actually found it to be quite a boring race

^ Yes, and a great race too... if you discount absolute Vettel dominance at the top of the pylon. The battles throughout the field otherwise were very good.
Then again, me likes Circuit of the Americas.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
After today's drop through the field performance, I'd say Heikki has a better shot at a return to Caterham than he does at Lotus.Kilroy8 wrote:Is this only for the last 2 races? Or has Kovalainen secured a 2014 seat with Lotus? I hope he has!
I have no dislike towards him, but his impressive runs seem to be few and far between. If given the options of who is available, Kovalainen would be below Kamui Kobayashi, Paul Di Resta and Sergio Perez on my list.
Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Given your screenname, I'd assume that you have some intense and perhaps irrational hate towards Vettel to make that statement.nickyf1 wrote:Haven't watched a Grand Prix for months.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Heikki had a hard race. Front wing damage cost him. Let's not forget, the cars change vastly every year, And it's been a fair few years since he was in a capable car anyway.

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Personally there's nothing irrational about my hatred of Vettel. His attitude grates me. Shafting his teammate at Malaysia, the "he's too slow get him out of the way", "I can't get past, do something", the comments he made about Lewis' pole lap at Silverstone earlier this year, the incident with Webber at Turkey a few years back that was blamed solely on webber by Vettels sugar daddies at red bull, that bloody finger...
Plus I'd be buggered if there's not something hooky on that red bull. 2 seconds a lap faster at Singapore, being able to pull a second a lap out of nowhere just when it suits, do me a favour. Sebs good, but not that good. And if anyone tries to tell me webbers in the same car you're deluded. He hasn't had the same car as Vettel frankly since the beginning of 2011

Gets fired, beats WDC team mate. Not bad.
Does anyone else think that in relative terms Mclaren is the worst team in F1 right now?

Re: 2013 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Vettel could win 10 World Championships. But he'll never be a true legend unless he does it without Adrian Newey.
Although I do think he takes unnecessary stick. All the presenters say he's a funny charming young man, and he doesn't like being the villain. But what is he supposed to do? Lose a few races to please the fans? But no body can deny he is a phenomenal driver regardless.

Same could be said about Jimmie Johnson/Chad Knaus or Michael Schumacher/Ross Braun.Kilroy8 wrote:Vettel could win 10 World Championships. But he'll never be a true legend unless he does it without Adrian Newey.

Shaving legend Ross Braun? Schumi always had a close shave...
