when you cant access the site you need to get your homework
when you go to football training, and you'd get more fitness from walking from you're room to the bathroom, emptying your intestines, and walking back again.

^ Been there mate. I was a Varsity starter my first cross country meet, #3 in my HS, and was running sixth in the lead pack coming to the last 200m sprint... caught a rut with my right foot and severely spained it, landed wrong on my left trying to catch my fall and broke that ankle.

Track career over in one meet.

Post by theboomeranga Thu 7 Feb 2013 - 7:55

i went up for a mark (catch) in footy, landed on my toes, rolled my ankle, then had my team mate (who wasn't tall, but wasn't light) land on it ass first, i ruptured the lateral and medial ligaments in my ankle, 75% tear of the posterior one (that supports the achilles), when the ligaments ruptured (besides a god aweful bang) i ripped bits of bone of off the bones they attach to. i also smashed the top of my ankle into the bottom of my tibia/fibula
the specialist said if it was any harder i would've completely shattered my groth plate, AND broken my tibia and fibula in half...
VERTICALLY
he gave me an 18 moth recover time frame, i played my first game back just under a year later, and 19 and a half months late, having the worst achilles pains, I could barely walk this morning, and i am supposed to be training for the Gold Coast Marathon in early july, but i can't even run 2 laps of an AFL feild (400m round) without it exploding with pain. i just dunno what to do because running is my life, it's what i train for, what i was made to do, and without running i'm just a body
you may think i'm over reacting, but running is the only thing i'm good at, no joke, i'm average at many things (racing on here, AFL, school, guitar, etc), but running is the one thing i can actually do higher than average in, not running is actually depressing for me, i'm going to say something i've only told my gf so far.
after training last night (because i injured it again last night), i actually came to my room and started crying when i went to bed because i can't go any longer without running, i've already missed 15 out of the last 19 and a half months of running, i can't miss more, it actually makes me cry, that's how passionate i am

sorry for dumping that on everyone here, but as you can see, it does get me down, quite a bit

Sorry to hear that. I did a similar thing playing football when I was 14, and worse when I was 20 (ankle cracked my foot like a coconut). I was devastated at the time as football and basketball were my life - school and stuff wasn't for me.

There's nothing that anyone can say that will make you feel miraculously better about the situation. You should definitely take up swimming and cycling when you can. Reduce the impact and build the strength back up gradually. If you rush back without proper physio help, you'll end up doing it again. I skipped the physio last time because of work commitments, needless to say, my football (soccer) career ended shortly after. I was told to avoid any impact sports and I was devastated.

But it sent my life on a new path and I'm glad it did. You can't change what's happened. You just need to look after yourself a bit more now. Smile

someone gets me, FINALLY, everyone takes the piss out of me, and says 'i'm milking my injury to get out of sport at school and the hard work, and 'oh, its been a year and a half, you should be better now'
well i'm obviously not, and no one knows my body better than i do. the amount of people i've almost knocked out because theyve bullied me that much about it, and i'm not a fighter at all, that's how painful it was getting, not physically but mentally and emotionally, i didn't even want to go to school, i still get called a pus*y for it, but i guess the best part about being called that is (being the only one in the group with a gf) is 'well they do say you are what you eat' that shuts them up, but it still doesn't help my slef confidence and pride
you can tell i'm loving life atm :/

I know you are struggling with it mentally and emotionally, but some things are just out of your control; there's no point getting down about it, just remember one simple rule; People are assholes. Try to look at the bigger picture. If you're not 100% fit, then you're only ever going to make it worse by coming back too soon. No, I'm no doctor, but my gf is an intensive care sister and I get to hear just how great and shitty the human body can be. My injury put a halt to playing any kind of sport afterwards but everyone is different. I don't want to sound patronising about it, but you're young and you've got that body for the rest of your life; don't f*ck it up too early lol.

Post by theboomeranga Fri 8 Feb 2013 - 7:21

ok, you know what, i'm sorry for the language in advanced, but i'm so fuc*ing pissed by that fact that i ask for an electric guitar and amplifier, which i get, over $600 combined, and then, i get playing, they see i'm happy that i'm learning new songs, then i have it on 3 and 1/3 volume, which isn't that loud, and they come up and fucki*g tell me to turn it down, if i put it even on 3, it;s a big difference. i just don't get it, why get me a [Censored]*ng guitar, that i'm going to play rock, which is loud, if i can't have the [Censored]*ng amp up just a little bit.
[Censored]*ng over it
sorry again for my language, but as it can be seen by all my recent posts here, i have a lot built up, and although i have gloves, no bag or anyone to hold the pads so i can box my anger out
