Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
For the other races they usually just stream US coverage and go to ad breaks when the US does however for the 500 they had a pre show and they didn't cut away for the ad breaks. At the end of the day it's better than a small crappy quality livestream. The Detroit races will both be live on ESPN UK at 8:30pm. As for their coverage of the 500 it wasn't great but it could've been a whole lot worse. Was just a bit annyoying that they didn't show Jim Nabors singing and the "drivers start your engines". At least they're showing it.

So Fernando Alonso beat the Mercedes in practice 1 today, just 0.016 seconds quicker than Lewis Hamilton. Practice 2 will be getting under way soon.
Who's your money on for this weekend?

Getting tired of Mercedes domination.
I hope Hamilton brainfarts in Turn 1 on Lap 1.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
At least both teammates are dominating but having to fight each other. The Vettel borefest of the last few years was far worse than this seasons offering

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
My dislike for Hamilton overrules any like I have for Mercedes. I'd probably be fine with it if it were Nico and either Hulk or Sutil instead of the party boi.
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Genuinely dont understand the widespread dislike of hamilton.
If its arrogance, then you must dislike every racing driver. Without an amount of arrogance you're nothing.
If its his attitude, they're all like it. Whether they do it publicly or not is one thing, but they all do it. Vettel is worse.
You cannot tell me Hamilton isnt one of, if not the most exciting drivers on the grid. He can drag a naff car around to decent results (something Vettel hasnt been able to do) and on his day is untouchable. Does need to learn to keep his mouth shut on occasion though

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
In less than stellar equipment, Hamilton didn't produce much.
Its the whole package: a skanky poptart girlfriend, wannabe gangsta earrings, a mouth that doesn't know when to shut up, and a general lack of sportsmanship, as evidenced in his refusal to congratulate his team for the win at Monaco one race ago.
If not for rampant patriotism, I highly doubt that he'd have much of a fanbase period.

I completely agree with Mikey on this, I'd much rather see Rosberg win the title this year over Hamilton & I'm English.

Spot on bud.
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
It'll certainly be interesting to see the British media's reaction at the end of the year when wither Nico or Lewis wins the championship.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Along with Hamilton I'd say the two best drivers on the grid. Then Rosberg, Raikkonen, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Grosjean and Ricciardo. Perez, Button, Bianchi, Kvyat, Massa, Bottas, Magnussen, Kobayashi, Gutierrez, Vergne, Sutil.
Ericsson unproven. Chilton and Maldonado don't make the list

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
I rate Bottas as a top driver, but I agree that Hamilton & Alonso are a class above.
I'm rather indifferent towards Lewis, neither like nor dislike him. He does have a tendency to act like a petulant child sometimes, I'd rather see Rosberg win all the time.
It was much the same with Vettel & how everyone slagged him off & hated him for just winning. Vettel seems like a decent person & always seemed up for a laugh in interviews. And Vettel never bitchec & moaned like Lewis does...

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
I hate Vettel's attitude to his team. He's been throwing his toys out of the pram because he hasn't had a great car and has been pretty much blaming his team for why he isn't doing well. The fact that Ricciardio has been beating him fair and square is another reason why I really don't think he's that great of a driver.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
IF Vettel is "not that great of a driver" then Webber isn't a driver, period. Reason being is that Vettel was about 1-2 seconds quicker per lap than Webber 90+% of the time
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
Then why is he being beaten by Ricciardio this year? If he's so good then he should be beating him.

IMO, that just means that Riccardio must be better than anyone would have guessed and Webber is worse than people would admit.
On the flip side, if Hamilton is indeed so great, why is Rosberg able to set quicker laps so frequently? I don't ever hear anyone say Nico in th esame breath as Hamilton and Alonzo when discussing current best F1 drivers.
Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
All stems down to the fact that Alonso is widely regarding as the best F1 driver due to his race craft and the fact that he has dominated his team mate wherever he has been over his career. I think Hamilton is held in that same level as Alonso as he was the one who stood up to Alonso whilst at McLaren.
No doubt Vettel is a great driver just that the argument that it was the car rather than the driver can be made against him.
As for Rosberg, he hasn't really achieved anything yet while in F1. Would be nice for him to win a world championship at least once. Maybe this is his year.

Re: 2014 FIA Formula 1 World Championship
If Rosberg doesn't win the title this year, he won't. Same as Massa in 08, Barrichello in 09, Webber in 2010 and before that Irvine 99. Must admit though he's doing a fantastic job this year. He was 7th or 8th on my list last year.
As for the Webber comment, I do not believe for one second he had the same car as Vettel back end of last year. That or he just gave up. In truth I think after 2010 he never got quite the same treatment as Vettel did.

I'm sorry but this is BS. A constructors aim is to win the WCC. Webber would have had exactly the same equipment under him in order to achieve that. It just happened to be that the blown diffuser that RB had absolutely mastered suited Vettel's driving style much more than Webber and so he could extract more from the car. It's why Vettel has struggled at the start of this year.
To be fair to him the RB isn't the quickest car around Canada in comparison the Williams and Ferrari and he's pulled a quality lap out of the bag. Why people still think he needs to prove himself is beyond me. I think people don't like him because he's German and all his whiny messages got played over the past few season.
I also think people dislike Hamilton because he's just annoying, all this Senna [Censored] he's been spouting and it makes him look childish and people don't want to see that. Rosberg has just kept it cool and beat him on track which is the way to do things.
