I have a G25 wheel at my dads which I use to play GTR2 on I have a decent computer.
How much is iRacing to get hold of and how much space does it take up?
Also would a G25 wheel be good to use?

Personally a huge yes but it really depends what you want out of a game tbh. It's less of a game and more of a challenging career with a long term commitment!!!

My recommendation to anyone wanting to try it is get a one month pass and don't buy anything else. Then do loads of peactice laps in the cars and on te tracks available, then enter a championship. You'll soon see if you like it.

I really like that I can practice. Qualify. Time trial and Race pretty much whenever it takes my fancy by just registering and turning up. It's a little like public hoppers but on a sky movies scheduling. If that makes sense.

Ahhh okay. Very Happy
-Sounds intresting what cars can you get in the game I have had a look at some vids on youtube and it seems mostly F1 and radicals?
-Can you get a full grid of GT's (GT2/GT3) Like GT open/ BES?

There are a lot of sports cars and NASCARs, haven't seen much racing with F1 cars and Radicals. All races are practically one make series which is a bit of a shame, but they only have the licenses for a few cars. There is some multiclass GT racing i.e. Corvette GT1, Ford GT2 and McLaren GT3 - or even HPD and Ford GT and such. They are apparently getting the BMW Z4 GT3 which may be the first time they have 2 make sin one race - McLaren and BMW.

I have a G27 and last year when I raced I plugged it in and it worked perfectly, it even felt better than the Fanatec I have. However, I spend an entire day yesterday trying to get it to work again and it simply won't be read or save settings now. It's been a pain. Not sure how to fix it, may hook my Fanatec back up and update it fully as many people use the Elite for iRacing.

My only word of warning is if you want to race the best cars all the time then expect to pay for it. There are only a couple of 'free' seasons as each season will usually require you to buy at least one or two tracks. The basic Mazda and Legends series don't require extra content, but anything else and you will need to buy stuff.

Slightly off topic, but GTR2 and GT Legends are only £2.25 each on Steam today thanks to the sale.

Righty O, i peddled my dynamo fast enough to produce a video of more than one car!! This was shortly after buying the McLaren and after only having raced like ten times in the Mazda MX5. So I just entered into a race in it at Sebring!!! Bad move. Apologies for the quality but at least there is some racing. Doesn't do iracing justice at all but hey, it's either feed my 5 and a half week old boy or a gaming PC!! Guess which wins!!!

So, would that be considered Newbie Spec? Hop in a powerful car with a stock tune and see how things go?

Finally got my wheel working again, was doing some racing in the Mazda's. As Magictap showed, there is a lot of dodgey driving as it is the most basic of circuit racing and as you start at the bottom you get to see the really fast to the dangerous. When a crash does occur you still need to try finish the race to get your rank up, and 25 laps can be a bit boring on your own Sad

Exactly Richy - bought a months subscription to try this again and I'm quickly remembering why I walked away last time Mad

There are too many people in the Mazda's that have little/no race etiquette and as you are penalised no matter how any incident occurs I've now lost a huge amount of ranking through no fault of my own.

Don't get me wrong - I have had some excellent racing with like-minded drivers, however the minuses are outweighing the plusses again for me at the moment Rolling Eyes

Yeah I was getting annoyed with it again, reminded me why I stuck to ovals last time out as people actually respect the speed and skill to race in a pack of so many cars going at that speed. What does annoy me with iRacing is being stuck in the cockpit, it's great and all for immersion but it ruins any spacial awareness if you don't have triple monitors.

try qualifying it puts you into a field with others around the same speed if enough bother.

Plus the McLaren race was not a championship or series just a fun one.

I did qualify for one race recently - unfortunately it only made about a 5% improvement!!

It's not particularly the speed of other cars that's the issue - there's just too many incidents caused by poor driving that you unwittingly end up involved in and get unfairly penalised for Evil or Very Mad
