Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Hmmm the forums have been down most the morning so unless people have been on Twitter they wouldn't have enjoyed my frantic Tweeting during that epic race. Fantastic result for Lewis and Mark Webber. What a drive!
Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Wow, their REALLY need to get rid of DRS. It wrecked an otherwise great race for me. There were plenty of passes that did not need artificial assistance and the ones that were the result of DRS were fake. Take the Renault for example: in a straight line it was faster that almost all the cars that tried to pass it on the back straight until the overtaker popped their wing open and sailed on past. That is not fair as the Renault is a faster car. Additionally, DRS is supposed to compensate for the dirty air in the wake of the cars that prevents overtaking. In this race it was compensating for cars that lacked straight line speed.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Its fake and gimmicky though. The passes that are made using it just give a slower car a free position. Without it, the faster cars will still get past. That might not have been true last year, but with the Pirellis this year, it is. Look at Hamilton, he won the race because he made legit overtakes. If they insist on having a push to pass button, then make a button that gives them an extra couple thousand RPMs. That way at least there's a consequence for using it; using more fuel and more engine wear.

I like DRS, but I think it needs work. I would limit the number of times it could be used in a race.

Anyone esle think that Maldonado was a huge mistake for Williams, finishing behind one of the Lotus with no obvious problems throughout his race??

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Formula 1 cars had that sort of ''overtake button'' for years before KERS anyway. And its essentially still used with different engine maps and fuel mixtures.

I think that is more reflective on the car, Barrichello is hardly fighting at the sharp end. If Rubens was doing well, we could compare Maldonado's pace.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
On the DRS topic, the way that Hamilton used the DRS today is i think the best way for it to be used, Hamilton used it to get into a good overtaking position then would overtake without using the DRS by using the additional grip from his tyres and a lot of bravery, so i liked the way that DRS is being used by various drivers.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
I must admit I havent watched it yet but the bloody F1 app on my iPod comes up and tells me and most of the time I put it down and go "Oh what a suprise... Vettel won" but today I was like "HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! WELL DONE HAMILTON!!!" But also well done to Webber! 18th he was!

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Could TORA possibly stop posting F1 updates on Twitter? Seriously I can't comment how many times TORA has ruined my weekend in front of the TV. I try to avoid it anyway I can, getting to the point where I am no longer going to be on TORA during the weekend, possibly from Friday. Which pretty much limits my time here to nothing as I'm busy all week with work.
Or at least remove the Twitter feed on the left. Why are you even posting updates on F1, isn't TORA supposed to be about the virtual world of racing. Go and post those updates on your personal twitter.
Didn't somebody else complain about this and you deleted the thread?

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
Only now finished watching, maybe being on twitter and the forums is also a reason why I have looked down on F1 lately....
- Webber doing his utmost not to look like Johnny Dumfries within Red Bull
- Vettel too hard on Tyres or are the Tyres too hard on Vettel? Had he won that race would have still been good. Maybe the lack of communication between him and the pitwall affected his driving, maybe we wouldnt have had to suffer Vettel's victory toast
- But the compound difference is still wrong why do both compounds last the same distance? It would be cheaper to make one species of slick tyre that lasts 2/3rds for everyones use.
- Apparently DRS is "Still a work in progress"
Why is it in F1 if it is a work in progress, when it should be trialed in something lower down (GP2 for instance?) before its use can be perfected? And it appers to work in the place where the overtake would no doubt happen had DRS not been there.
- Toro Rosso enhancing the fact that Red Bull scholarship drivers are good over one lap but rubbish during a race.
- Anyone else fed up of hearing how Di Resta has had an "Unusual" route into F1?
- Oh Jenson, in the shanghai sun all mechanics overalls are the same shadowy colour when your in a battle for position down the pit entry... Oh no its a complete disaster!!??? Its understandable.
- Rosberg leading the race is a classic example of how Ross Brawn is good at pit strategy, taken from his days back at Jag in Group C, when there were plenty of pitstops to be made, but it did leave me slightly confused and "what was the point of all that?". When he lost the lead.
- Better race this time around, better than Sepang, so in turn it was better than Melbourne*, Top 8 consisting of the "big 4" just to keep with that Codemasters level of consistency , but this is how the big four should have appeard last year, possibly a bit less spread out than today though, Lotus now making a step into the suburbs of Midfield, Hispania getting across the line, thats more like it.
*why couldnt they get this right in the first two rounds?

Does that mean Jarno and Heikki will have an upgrade package which they can put together themselves?

Caterham and Team Lotus have joined together. This makes really good sense to me.

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
well it gives Team Lotus an option if the name thingy in court goes against them then they have a back up option with Caterham!

Re: OFFICIAL F1 2011
That reminds me of a news story from last year when a fake Dakar Rally truck was caught with more than 1,800 pounds of cocaine, 4.5 kilos of hashish, and 15,000 ecstasy tablets.

South Americans...
Btw, Turn 8 at Istanbul, the drivers are pulling 5G's in the corner... Thats around 2G's more than experienced on a Space Shuttle launch and entry. Sorry to bring space into the thread, but its a good comparison.
