2011 Indycar Series

Yep, its started, and it has a very impressive grid this year, something like 26 entries for St. Pete! Bourdais is back, and Lotus seem to have a great team of Kanaan, Sato and Viso.

As an american, I'm kind of embarrassed by Indycar. Its not even a shadow of its former self and the coverage on Speed is so god awful that I can't even describe it.

The only reason that I vaguely follow it is a naive hope that an american open wheel driver will show enough talent to make the jump to F1. I'm looking at you Danica, Andretti, and Hunter-Reay. Stop being an eternal disappointed and show that you don't have to be from the UK, Brazil, or New Zealand to be a successful driver.

Speed is terrible, period. its NASCAR and/or very little else. hell, a friend at work is big into AMA/MotoGP, but the races dont air til after midnight/the next day, and even then its abbreviated.

and honestly, i dont think we can rely on Danica doing anything better than what she's doing. hell, she still cant win in nascar's 2nd-tier series

What can I say, hope springs eternal. She's won a race, that's usually the first step towards competency. I wish she would give up on NASCAR and get a drive in the ALMS or something. That worked out pretty well for Hunter-Reay last week.

i just wish people would just let her race rather than putting all the focus on her, i mean...you go to barber motorsports website and you look at an IRL promo...and it's like 30% her.

not that it's her fault. but come on. dont make it the danica show, marketing idiots.

Danica did say herself that she doesn't like road courses because she can't pass on them...

She could learn. Lock her on a race track for a week with Jackie Stewart and Mika Hakkinen. If they can teach Captain Slow to drive, I'm sure that they would be able to help.

But seriously, she is really the only american driver who is well known enough to make F1 mainstream in the US. As long as she got a seat with a mid field team, she cannot possibly be worse than HRT.

I saw this on TV last night and it seems as though nobody is happy with it except the sponsors themselves, not even Ryan Hunter-Reay, he just feels like a dick now but he has no choice because he isn't paying the bills.

That must suck for Bruno, qualifying 19th to have it all taken away, makes you wonder why any driver would enter the indy 500 when you could unwillingly have your seat taken away without notice because a regular driver didnt qualify!

Yea, that sucks for him, but Indycar seems to be going the way of NASCAR where money is more important than the racing.

This has happened before, its nothing new.

That's true, but its still disappointing.

These cars look weird to me without a huge diffuser beneath the rear wing. I guess I watch too much F1.

...not sure who's counting, but my cable box says this is the 95th 'Indy 500', but the first Indianapolis 500 was ran on may 30th, 1911. heck, the Indy 500 logo for today's event has the number '100' in it

it is the 95th Indy 500, but its 100 years since the first Indy 500 was run.

The Indy 500 had a few off years.
