the rookie JR Hildebrand was soo close to winning it, only to put it in the wall out of turn 4. but still managed to slide it home in 2nd.

To be fair, Indy has tended to be something of a disaster recently on road courses, with their no overtaking zones, crazy restarts, and what not.
