Like the track or not, look at it this way. F1 didn't go to Bahrain because Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault, and the myriad of sponsors those cars carry had no wish to be associated in any way with that country. There is no reason to think that Audi, Peugeot, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, etc. will feel any differently.
Now consider the timing of the race, that it conflicts with Petit Le Mans. I wasn't expecting Petit to be part of the WEC, but I was still under the impression that a lot of the WEC teams would still come to Petit simply because its that big of a race. That's no longer possible.
And finally, the entire schedule conflicts with DTM which can't be making Audi or BMW happy at all.

Totally agree guys look difficult situation but I have a feeling the WEC will go to Bahraian why becuase the WEC is no way as popular (yet) as F1 so wont cuase the same controvosy

As far as the Grand Prix was concerned, no matter what layout, was always a bit of a joke, even in 2009 where FINALLY they had got things right.
As for other forms of motorsport, the v8s were good around there, A1GP would have been AWESOME around there because they were very entertaining around the ones that tilke built, as if herman was designing tracks for A1 and not F1. It COULD be a good venue for the LMPs and GTs, but the F1 races and also the Arab Spring have clouded my judgement.

I really think (considering the growing following for the 24hr event) that Dubai would have been a better bet. The track is extremely good and we know it works well with sportscars

I do like Sao Paulo being part of the calendar, the LMS raced there in 2006 for their 1000 mile race they hold.

Reading this makes me sad. I get that the WEC is a world championship and that means that it has to go all over the world, but wouldn't the series be better served by having more than one north american race to try to attract teams like Pratt and Miller, RLL, Risi, or the Lizards? As it is now, the WEC is just going to be the top teams from Europe competing in GTE. That's not a world championship.
Also, why does Manthey not compete outside of VLN races? They've been as much of a Porsche factory team as anyone else and they are very, very good. Is there a reason they don't take their day glo cars to Le Mans or elsewhere?

yep. if you're toyota, why spend a billion per year to come 12th.

Hmmm... I would say the budget is much much more than a tenth of an F1 budget.
I can't imagine 4,000,000 Euro (WHY DO UK KEYBOARDS HAVE NO EURO SIGN) covering the cost of Audi's R18 programme.
