M&M Racing 2011 review and 2012 look ahead.
2011 was probably M&M Racing's biggest and most successful year to date. The ISCC title wasn't something the team had given much thought to and early on in the season Duncan Ray took numerous victories in the GT2 class utilizing the old M&M Racing GT2 Nissan from a few years ago. Although the car was of a much older spec and had been handicapped to meet the new regulations it was still a very capable car. Duncan took the overall GT2 victory in the Asian leg of the championship and the team lost out to Vendi Vidi Vici GT2 by 3 points. Overall the team were pleasantly suprised by how capable the Nissan was.
For the Euro leg the car went through some major aerodynamic work to improve the performance of the car. Again, the car surpised and was a continual front runner throughout the European leg. The team took the Euro GT2 title and Duncan finished in the top three in the Drivers Championship.
For the American leg the team took a drastic decision. Travis Gray, who returned to the team after being such a strong competitor in 2011, encouraged the team to enter into LMP2 after some extremely strong testing performances. By entering LMP2 the team were not only looking to win the class for the American leg, but they had the overall ISCC championship in their sights. It would be a tough one with Aero Dynamics having such a large lead, but it was worth the challenge. The team dominated LMP2 by winning every single round of the American leg of the championship in the class and usually having at least 2, sometime all 3, of the drivers on the podium. It was a huge success but it was not quite enough to catch Aero Dynamics, who took overall ISCC victory by 42 points. The team secured their second championship of the season. Meanwhile I continued to trundle around in my Nissan in GT2, managing to get the car onto the podium in the final 2 rounds.
Travis won the overall ISCC championship, his first championship victory whilst Duncan took 2nd.
The team is looking to continue their winning ways in the 2012 ISCC seasons. The team are still in huge debate about what cars they will run for the season as there is such a huge choice.
The team also took the coveted TORA Touring Car Chmpionship after 5 season of trying. Battling in one of the closest, yet controversial, seasons yet the teams championship went right down to the wire and only beat ATR by 53 points. The Acura was a good choice to go for in the season, as it had the speed of the Integra but the Handling of the Civic. It was a good car overall for the variety of tracks that the season covered. The team will be back in 2012 for the next TCC season.
Currently the team is engaged in the TORA Abarths Season 2 with Ian Marr putting in a very dominating performance, having won 7 of the 8 competitive roudns so far and looking to clean up in the last meeting of the season this coming Tuesday.
M&M Racing also has a presence in the Formula 500 running both a Lexus SC430 and Honda NSX.
The team have also entered into the upcoming GT24. The team has signed to use the Mercedes SLS AMG and is looking to be very competitive in the series. We have also signed Nicky Plunkett to the team and are extremely excited to have him on board after he took his maiden TORA TCC Championship. The car is still under development in the factory and is expected to make it's debut before the end of the weekend.
