Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
Imo , a big let down, There is no way you can say the graphics are as good as forza. Im not a forza fan boy as i used to swear by gran turismo. And i certainly dont think Forza is perfect
I think the single player race is utterly boring.. ok there are a few more cars to try out i.e single seaters, but to be honest those cars dont interest me. I think the tuning options are a little basic and to be honest the whole games in feature options are completely out of date.
No telemetry? No names to work out who is in what car in the replays? Annoying enforcement on rules, DQ if someone forces you wide onto a corner? In game Lobby that makes no sense? No ABS that feels like your brakes are made from wood?... simple stuff really
Im undecided by the handling, so im not going to really go into to much detail. One thing that does annoy me is if you get the backend loose on one of the bmw's , its near on impossible to recover - you end up straight in a wall! Totally unrealistic.
If it came out 2 years ago im sure not only me but alot of racers would have been happy. but if forza then came out, it would be left on your game shelf.
The main reason being that there is so much more to the game in Forza and the cars in race pro handle like the R series cars.
I think within a couple of weeks after the novelty has worn off, i think alot of people will be back on Forza.
As for the online play - what a joke. definately no way you could sustain a series. And the fact you have to quit out to then change cars goes to show how little they have thought about what gamers want. Not even in the same leauge as Forza from a usabiltiy point of view.
Id have to say that since im running direct on the internet via my xbox i have no lag or connection issues and can always connect with my friends so if you cant connect its becaue your internet connection isnt great, simple as that.
Ill give it a fair chance though as this was after one nights driving - but so far id have to give it 5/6 out of 10

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
Hmmmmm, your making me not want this game now
Monk, there is no way that you can say that this game has good graphics. I know graphics ins't everything, but these days all games no matter how bad they are have pretty decent graphics and when looking at the screenshots this game looks really old. It doesn;t really look like an xbox360 game tbh.
I don't usually take onboard all the info in commercial reviews about games, but one thing I do look at is graphics in these reviews since they review a lot of games. And that seems to be the constant theme of every reveow of this game, the shoddy graphics.
Like chaddy said, you showed a pretty poor forza shot, expecially compared to your shots you took of you civic thast in the banner. There is countless threads on FM.net with people taking really good in game shots without editing their photos, and they all out class race pros.

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
Right, I have only had time to do the minis, caterhams and the radical tryouts since getting the game yesterday, due to work commitments, but I have a few things to say.
I can't believe people are criticising the graphics in this game. Really. Before Forza 2 came out, Test Drive Unlimited and PGR3 were the benchmarks for 360 driving games. When the Forza 2 demo hit live, every man and his dog criticised the game for having poor graphics. Forza 2 uses an upgraded, high definition and faster refreshing version of the engine that ran Forza 1, which is what, 4-5 years old now?
The fan(ny)boys called for heads to roll for there being no in-car view of the dash and interiors we had been treated to in PGR3 and TDU. They cried over the static environments. They whined that there were no weather effects.
Has it stopped the game being taken to everyone's heart? No. We played it because it was the most realistic representation of motorsport on a console thus far.
As it is, driving games are limited by what they can do with graphics. There isn't much you can do with a race track as it is, due to their bland nature. And given you only see each part of the track for a few moments as you whizz past it, does it really matter?
I think Race Pro's graphics aren't anywhere near as bad as people are making out. I think they are at least on par with Forza 2. They certainly aren't stand-out amazing, but neither were Forzas on launch. But we got used to them.
At the end of the day, what does it matter if the graphics aren't BAFTA-winning? Are they functional? Yes. Can you determine what is going on at all times? Yes. Do they attempt more with the game engine than Forza does, ie in-car cockpits and working virtual mirrors? Yes. So what does it matter?
Utter nonsense to compare graphics and score the game based on that. Totally shallow and complete bollocks. Very short term memories there if we are now holding Forza 2 as the epitomy of what can be achieved.
The thing that hooks me about Race Pro is the AI of the other cars and the physics. I love the way the cars handle. I love the way you feel like the Radical is going to lose control at any second as you hare round a corner as it pushes the limits of grip. I love the way the AI challenges each other for position and makes mistakes like lock-ups, rather than the processional AI we have in Forza 2. I love the way the Caterham's nose turns into a corner.
Simbin ain't no slouches when it comes to racing games. They have years of experience, and the game engine is developed from the same engine that is in Rfactor, which is (in a far enhanced state) used as the basis for the official A1GP simulators, as well as many other simulators - I used the Honda F1 racing simulator once and it ran Rfactor.
It has some teething problems just now, as do nearly all games upon release - didn't Call Of Duty 4 require patched the day it was released? What matters is the engine is in place for some cracking online competition. We WILL be running Race Pro-based series, and I know I will be playing this for a long time to come.
And as for these review scores everyone is plucking out the air? Keep them to yourselves, as they are totally subjective. I will not tell you whether you should like the game or not, that is totally up to you based on your experience of it.

80% of posts on this forum are subjective
ps i think the whole idea of giving a game a numeric score insane...
imo. i would recommend RACE Pro to racing fans, but think forza 2 has a better overall package and if i could only choose one game to install... it would be forza 2.

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
Ive played more of this game today and the online is worse than i thought. You can't connect to anyone doesnt matter who your with or if your computer is on, the online is pathetic. This morning out of 7 races i done i finished one race. I lost my connection randomnly and i wernt even lagging during the game. This patch which is coming out better make this game better or its just going to be a total waste of 40 quid.

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
I have a feeling that the touring cars won't be switched to Race Pro; judging by the mixed reviews from everyone.
I have to say that this is the most over rated game in the last couple of years!

1) Didn't say I was going to lock it, I said I wanted to lock it due to frustration.
2) There will be a TORA Pro Touring Car Championship.
3) Hardly over-rated. MGS4, Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy, Little Big Planet, Halo... they were over-rated. Who exactly hyped this?

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
MGS4 was over rated, but i still loved it!
I kinda agree with chaddy tho, but i wouldn't say over rated as such. I think a lot of people were expecting Simbin to make a whole new simulation game for the xbox rather than making a slightly more simplified port of GTR Evo, which is just Race07 with some new GT cars. And its an old game, so why would they bother making a new engine when they had a very functional one.
I hope that Simbin now moves away from Race07 engine and all the games that they have based around it. We need a brand new game from them.

Why do you want to lock it for ck? You cant lock the thread because people are having their say about race pro. You may like it but that doesnt mean to say you can lock this thread because other people dont.

Re: RACE PRO General Discussion.
Keep discussions as long as there is no swearing. Moderators can and will lock any threads they wish. There is no argument from me on that.
IMO, I actually like the online set up. Why wait 10-20 mins for some guy start the race because he is waiting for his friend to get back. Here you get to have some practice!
The online is bad with connection, but is fine when your with your friends.

RIGHT, TO BLOODY CLARIFY, I SAID I WANTED TO LOCK IT DUE TO MY FRUSTRATION WITH IT, BUT NOT THAT I WAS GOING TO LOCK IT!!!
I am getting pissed off now and I WILL lock it if I damn well want.
But I'm not going to.
AND THAT'S THE BLOODY END OF IT!!!
