Re: Sport!
I think a Scottish bloke has won Wimbledon back in the day, like 1890 something. I can't recall his name, but someone said that on sky Sports News.
Guys whether you love him or loathe him, you can't take away that immense achievement of winning Wimbledon. You'd be disrespectful to discount that from his efforts.

Re: Sport!
Good for him for winning Wimbledon.
But I still dislike him.

No WAY can cricket fans accuse motor racing of being boring, I thought a test was one day. They've been playing for a week!

Re: Sport!
LEEDS United are in talks over a lucrative link-up with energy drink giant Red Bull that could lead to the renaming of the club’s Elland Road ground.
It is understood top-level discussions have started between the club and the company about a possible shirt sponsorship agreement.
No-one involved in those discussions is prepared to go on record as to how far reaching any deal could be.
But today’s revelation is likely to prompt speculation that a stadium naming rights deal could also be under consideration.
Red Bull is already involved with a string of football clubs around the world – the New York Red Bulls and Austria’s FC Red Bull Salzburg play in grounds named after the company.
Asked whether the talks could involve a stadium naming rights deal, highly-respected brands expert Jonathan Gabay said: “It’s not out of the question.
“They would have to be cautious, because the initial reaction of football fans is to resist that kind of move. At the same time, however, I think fans are coming round to the idea that this is the way the sport is going.”
Mr Gabay added: “As a brand, Red Bull is all about the idea of excitement. They would want to be involved with a club which matches that image.”
United have made no public comment but managing director David Haigh is known to have well-placed contacts at Red Bull.
A source close to the talks said: “Red Bull are a huge brand name and a partnership with Leeds would obviously be a really exciting coup.”
Red Bull’s turnover in 2012 was close to five billion euros. The firm’s sporting interests away from football include a Formula 1 motor racing team.
Talk of a new name for Elland Road will stir memories of United’s ground move plans during the chairmanship of Peter Ridsdale.
Leeds chose a site off the A1(M) near Stourton for a new stadium and were in negotiations with a number of major international firms over naming rights before the proposal was scuppered by the club’s meltdown on and off the pitch.

Excuses? we played a great game, its not quite the Scotland of 2007/08 but its looking better.
I think its more worrying that England had two goals past them.

Them kind of excuses I've already seen some people try to claim it as a Scotland win due to the difference in talent in the squads.VAMR Wilson wrote:I think its more worrying that England had two goals past them.

Playing for a flag is worth more than playing for a rich billionaire.
Then again try explaining that to Russia (lost to Northern Ireland) and Brazil (lost to Switzerland).
And dont get me started on Malcom Bale*, the sooner he goes to spain the better.
Gareth Bale, today.

Re: Sport!
Eh? I thought Scotland played pretty well. Certainly provided a good game for England! As usual, the coverage was utter English worshiping pish. I know there's 50 million of you, and just 5 million of us, but it's national TV, and the patronising pats on the back by the English pundits was just cringe worthy.Kilroy8 wrote:England 3-2 Scotland

I think Scotland has found the right man in Gordon Strachan, the improvement in the squad has been drastic. We played well last night, and it was gutting to lose to two set pieces, especially after Kenny-the human tangerine-Miller's quality strike (as much as I hate Kenny Miller) in the second half.
And to be fair, the real victory is filling Trafalgar Sqaure with fairy liquid. Stuff you London!

Celtic through to the group stages again!

Celtic drew Barcelona, AC Milan and Ajax. The only other british clubs to go through where Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has admitted for the first time that awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar may have been a mistake.
And Blatter says he is hopeful that he can persuade the game's senior figures to move the Qatar World Cup to winter, rather than have matches played in temperatures of up to 50 degrees in the summer.
The final decision will be taken in October, when Blatter will try to have his proposal to switch the tournament to winter endorsed by the FIFA Executive Committee.
Asked by insideworldfootball.com about awarding Qatar the event in the first place, Blatter said: "It may well be that we made a mistake at the time.
"On the other hand, you must also consider political and geo-political realities. The World Cup is FIFA's biggest, if not only, global event. Who are we, the Europeans, to demand that this event has to cater to the needs of 800 million Europeans above all?
"I think it is high time that Europe starts to understand that we do not rule the world anymore, and that some former European imperial powers can no longer impress their will on to others in faraway places.
"We must accept that football has moved away from being a European and South American sport, it has become the world sport that billions of fans are excitedly following every week, everywhere in the world."
Regarding his plan to switch the event to winter, he said: "After many discussions, deliberations and critical review of the entire matter, I came to the conclusion that playing the World Cup in the heat of Qatar's summer was simply not a responsible thing to do.
"First, we need to see whether the owner of the FIFA World Cup - FIFA - actually agrees with my recommendation, one that I shall table at the October 3/4 ExCo meeting, and whether it follows my advice to change the dates from summer to winter.
"Once the Executive Committee of FIFA has agreed to that, we can take the next step.
"The next steps will include a close look at the international calendar and to establish what consequences the change would have. And we would naturally need to speak to and consult with all interested parties and stakeholders."

Re: Sport!
Jesus wept...
IDIOTS!! Why are they coming back on it now? Surely there is some legal shiznaz that means they can't reverse their decision. So blatant that members of the voting board were wooed by Qatar's big cash, they'll jump ship in about 5 years so others get left with the mess while they enjoy their new luxury yacht.

Re: Sport!
Money talks. Qatar is a great country, and the stadiums on plan look phenomenal. But it's not a football country. A winter World Cup disrupts all the European leagues, whilst the Qatari Summer has temperatures in excess of 50C. As soon as Blatter is out of power the better. Must be the most corrupt organisation in the world.

Re: Sport!
ok, so i'm no Rugby League fan, but in the NRL last night, the Cowboys were playing Penrith (i think) and the second half finished, and Penrith had the ball, so they finish the current play, as the rules say, but instead of going to 5 tackles, they ref went to 7, and penrith tied, this is sh*ty because it just ruins the sport, and again, it's the reffs fault, as usual,
wish umpires and refs all over the world would get their acts together...
