I don't really get why people will be a fan of a driver just because they're the same nationality? Seems like a flimsy reason to support someone...

With so few Canadian drivers raceing internationally, it is kind of hard not to support them.

diddo. The Villenueves, Carpentier (IRL), Tracy (IRL), Fellows (ALMS, NASCAR road course ringer), Hinchcliffe (IRL), Wittmer (ALMS) and Wickens (Mercedes Young driver program, tested F1 for Marussia in 2011 and drove DTM in 2012) are the only ones that come to mind atm.

its just a matter of patriotism.

There may be an element of 'Patriotism' in there. But may one ask, why? I couldn't give 2 squats what Button or McLaren do next year. They're just another team & driver making up the numbers.

It's nice to have someone from where you're from to be proud of.

Scotland does quite well in motorsport for a country of only 5m, and half of which live in and around Glasgow, which isn't exactly the sort of place that provides a good environment for producing motorsport talent (under 10% of the population of the entire UK, which is 60m+), so it's quite natural to support your countryman. Yet, at the same time, I'm probably just as fanatical about drivers of other nationalities.

Oh, and come to think of it, Motorsport is probably one of Scotland's most successful sports (possibly second to curling)!

Hatchbacks like the Focus are much closer in size to the Supertouring era Mondeos than the upcoming Mondeo is.
