Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Shes clean enough!
Those engines however, are garbage!
Exactly the same as the AGG lump i dropped into my old Passat just different manifolds. They can't take the punishment! Big ends are too soft and soon start rattli.g their nut in!
For the money your spending you'd be better off changing it to.a 1.8t 20v

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Yeah I agree, Not the best engine, but as for not taking the punishment I'm not so sure. Many people have said the same thing about the 1.8t but too many of the have been thrashed and not worth messing with, but its definitely something I'm thinking of, just finding a decent lump and weighing up the cost of what would be better to use.

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
I've popped 2 AGG lumps! Whereas my PB engine got me to 200k and still pulled like a train!
20vt are really prone to oil pump failure, and as you say, being thrashed.

Quick update
Started scraping all the sound deadening material off the floor.. Such a tedious job!
Before
After!
Dont worry about the fact ive painted the fuel lines, their getting binned as their too small for the engine ill be running LOLL and ill probably give it another coat at a later date
That was it really, A quiet Saturday but slow progress is better than no progress!

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Are you gonna put in subframe connectos or just gonna use the cage to stiffen the chassis as they usually require you to cut the floor?

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Yea im not allowed to modify the floor other than to strengthen it by welding plates in where the roll cage bolts in
I will be getting a lower strut brace when I get the money though

PROGRESS
Some more progress today!
Out with the old!
In with the new!
rear brake disc, nothing special. Dont need rear brakes
How shes sitting
More weight reduction inside :ahh:
Tedious [Censored] job!
Engine loom in
Seat arrived
Brakes on, brembo discs, DC3000 pads. I know their not that big, but 239mm is all I'm allowed to run in my class!
Other things ive been doing which has taken up my time
Rachels Valentines day prezzie from me! Not bad for £130 eh?
Just a quick tidy up on the Coupe before we sell it! not bad for 3 hours work on that haha

Cheers guys! Will do my best to keep on top of it
So, Ive been splashing the cash again! Got myself a new engine and Gearbox
A nice low miler ready for some minor modifications
And it went straight in after bolting the 4branch to it so i can make the exhaust system!
Added a few more ancillaries
Got the rear brakes buttoned up and fully re-furbed ( ill get a photo tomorrow ) and front track rod ends will finish the front end!
Some slight floor modifications
And back out of the Workshop untill next time

Back on the old girl!!
Found a hole! :hammer:
What hole :read:
Mounted and fitted the GTi Bodykit
Really needs painted asap!
Welding the plates for the roll cage in
Roll Cage adjustment tool so i can mount it in the correct position!
FIRE!!
Roll cage finished and dash back in! Starting to make progress now!
Oh yea, and this happened
Its to come back out very soon, its just to see if it runs, and so i can make my exhaust system.

Getting on well, very impressed with the work your doing. Do you think you will make it to the grid this year or start of next season?

I'm so jealous! I might try to tempt my dad to come to one of the race meetings. Looks like a great championship.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Richy59 and TORA for the Sponsorship on my MK2 Golf!
This space here will soon have a TORA logo filling it, and hopefully will see a few TORA representatives at Brands hatch and Snetterton this year!
This really is some of the best news Ive had all year!
