Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
So i took a few days off and really hammered down!
Rear Axle Almost complete
Ready for Polybushing
Dropping the subframe and suspension.... Again!
Ready for another overhaul!
Started spraying the underneath of the car
Everything back in place, new bushes, New Wishbones that have been re-inforced, new bolts and Gaz Gold fitted!
A better shot of it all, Now all thats needed is to fit the new brake pipes and braided hoses, pads discs and calipers and that will be the front end finished
How its currently sitting
So thats all for now! Really happy with the progress I made this week!
Oh and this arrived

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
No point getting a licence if you have no car to drive, especially as you have to re-new it every year, otherwise i wouldve have done this last year
Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Had one since about 2005. Haven't used it for... a few years lol.
Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Hardest bit is getting a decent budget together to do anything good. Once that's in place it'd be sorted.
Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Licence or car?
You say that about the budget, This si why i like the MK2 Golf GTI championship. Youll be hard pressed to find a more Proffesional, Close, respectful and Cheap tin top series going atm.. and its going from strength to strength!
By the time this car is finished I wont have spent £2000! and after meeting John Hillon ( Series co-ordinator ) and Alex 'Bomber' Harris ( Current 8v Champion ) who have been helping me with this MK2, Ive been told i should have one of the best handling cars on the grid with the components ive got Not bad for a supposed "Rookie"

Car/series side of things for me.
I have a car I could use but it's a case of doing to work and getting it properly race ready. Once that's done it'd be plain sailing. I do want to do a proper job of it so that's going to require mechanical assistance. Otherwise the car's gonna have wheels on the roof

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Well, having said youve already read the blue book, you should have no problem. Its piss easy!
So all you need to do then is re-do your medical and re-send off for licence? or do you still have to do your ARDS?

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Nah ARDS all done and sorted. Though going to treat myself to a bit of a refesher sometime this year.
Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
So just have to pay for a fresh licence then, thats not too bad!
did you have NAT B or NAT A?

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Nat B
Yeah the licence side of it is ok. It's just the car/money and fitness. Once those things can be sorted I'll be rocking

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
All the best for it then!
Once ive got my NAT B ill hopefully have my NAT A after 3 rounds which will allow me to race abroad, quite necessary concidering round 4 this year is at SPA!

Re: My Dunlop MK2 Golf GTi Build thread and race progress thread thing...
Great read, I've got the V-dub love to. I sold a BMW 325i To buy a MK4 Golf 2.0 GTI and never looked back. I've also made mods on the car but just for a hobby not to race, even though I would love to do it again. Many years back I did mini stock racing, which at the time was very chep to do.
Few thing I've done to the pug:
JOM Coilovers
Rims wolfrace lion hearts
Brambro breaks & discs
Full respray
K&N induction system
Full interior repleced
Lockwood race dials
R32 body kit Front and side skirts
GT rear kit
Led rear lights
M3 wing mirrors
In the pipe line:
Turbo (should get about another 150bhp from it. There is a possibility of 350bhp but to much work will be needed in other areas) cost £650
Front sports grill
Race exhaust (not sure on what to get yet)
Remap cost £125
I'll post some pics when I get chance.

I've got a PD130 Mk4 estate to tow my MK2.
Is your mk4 the 2.0 8v engine or the 20vt?
