Damn, its gotten cloudy here. Supposed to be around here about 8...I might forget to open the TCC thread
Actually I think it's more like 11 or something here, but it's not clear anymore after the great day we had.

Re: SCIENCE thread!
I can't see anything I'm going to wait till tomorrow, hopefully there'll be some great photos of it and perhaps some damaged satellites to laugh about
Re: SCIENCE thread!
NASA Live Stream is now...uh...Live. Showing some images from earlier, apparently it will reach it's closest point within the next 20 mins or so.

Richy59 wrote:As some people may know, there is a 150 ft Asteroid passing by Earth at some point tonight called 2012 DA14 and its rather close, just 17,200 miles.
This morning (I think) in Russia a much smaller meteor fell to Earth and exploded over a town causing 500 people to be injured, windows to be blown out in the town and a factory collapsed. The damaged factory was caused by once piece of the meteor. Some of the videos below are pretty incredible, and fortunately nobody has been killed by it.
Warning - Rather Loud
I'll be looking out for the big one tonight.

Re: SCIENCE thread!
that's awesome bud! It's a bright sunny day here, so I might be able to see it later tonight but the weather might permit me from doing so
Anyways NASA says that early simulations see that asteroid coming back in 2040ish and then maybe hitting the earth in 2080ish

Re: SCIENCE thread!
Awesome, I'm getting the Binoculars out and going for a look after the TCC opens.
Re: SCIENCE thread!
it was difficult because the sun was coming up too, ad had HUGE clouds coming over so i'm very lucky, and mopar, they say 2020 as well
Re: SCIENCE thread!
I hope the ISS managed to get a shot of it. That would be truly spectacular... To see an asteroid from above whizz past
Re: SCIENCE thread!
so apparenly from 2-23 of this month, we can see mercury in the evening sky, only problem is, my even sky is quite large and my scope lense is quite small

I don't think the ISS has any space facing observational windows, so it's unlikely we'll see anything from them.

Which is probably why NASA are working on getting humans to NEO's

Cosmos may be 'inherently unstable' !
