Don't be surprised that you get forced to use your TORA number, which makes IRT Trash the lucky guy that uses the William Rast paint.

Re: The 3rd TORA Wheldon 500
I kinda disagree with the thing being called the '3rd Wheldon 500'. It hasn't been that long since the last one, and throwing his name around for the sake of it every time we have a race around Indy on Forza doesn't pay proper respect to the man. I didn't want to say anything before, but I'm surprised nobody else has brought this up.
If it was an annual thing organised officially, and around the same time as the last one, that would be fine, but there's no way you can justify the name of the race.
You have to remember that Dan's passing was a very tough time for a few of this forum's members, so consider that. What happened to Dan was a very real thing, and we have to remember this, and leave it be for a while until the next appropriate time comes.
But yes, I am definitely up for high-speed oval racing. It's all good fun. Just don't play with our emotions.

Re: The 3rd TORA Wheldon 500
Nicky damn, its to get support for the race
Plus its called the Wheldon 500 so why call it something its not. There was only say 6-8 months between the 1st two races and I said Ill look into a date.
I think its a great way to remember him, its the race he loved most of all.

To get support for the race? So you are playing on people's emotions to encourage participation. Excellent.
I don't understand your second point. The first race was an impromptu tribute which took place not long after his passing, the second was a longer, more official race. This '3rd' race is clearly just for the sake of pretending that you're organising something special, when really, it's best left for a more appropriate time.
I'm not saying it's not a great way to respect the man, but plastering his name over a race around Indianapolis at a time of year with no connection to Dan, and not long after the last race just looks plain careless, with no true consideration for what is truly respectful or appropriate, and a pathetic attempt to gain participation through an emotional response.
We can't constantly dwell on and glorify a human being's passing. Sometimes it's just best to leave the matter be for a while, and keep it for a special time once every year, not 'once every time chad wants to host a race'.

Re: The 3rd TORA Wheldon 500
I just wanted to know who would be up for it and look at getting a place later on in the season to run it as TORA have many championships still to come and if I can show them this thread and go 'look we have the numbers to put on a great race' This is a yearly race to remember a great driver, who I feel deserves to be remembered this way. You won the 1st race and im pretty sure you had the chance to win the 2nd and now you have this huge problem with a race thats not even got a date and you never said anything about the 1st two.
It hurts me greatly that you just cant see that this is only to get new members aware of such a race and the hope is to have it on a sunday when GT/ISCC isn't racing and to have a great grid of drivers.
This race means alot to me and others as you have seen in the thread, Dan who doesnt have much time to race these days has even asked me to keep him in formed which shows this is a big race for the fans and a idea which was approved by Matt some 18months ago.
Im NOT playing with emotions I would never do that, that is just very very low. You say this has to be left for a more appropriate time well THATS WHAT IM DOING! I stated in the OP that I dont have a date and Im looking at gaining interest.
Pretending im organising something special? Get a great grip, This is Special for the fans, and My 2nd son isn't call Danny for nothing. I love watching indycar and I rushed home from work to watch that last race of 2011 and wish I didnt.
Now please dont post any more, If you have to say anything please PM me, I'm not wanting this thread ruined.

Re: The 3rd TORA Wheldon 500
If the Pi is the same on both I'm sure its fine to use the Jim hall one. We will be maxing the cars out so they should be X999 cars.
Thanks for all the interest so far, as I said in a post above we will be looking to run this on a Sunday night that doesn't have ISCC or GT. The race last season was done around May time so I'm guessing that's when it'll be.
I would get the cars tested guys as its very fast speeds round here and I'm even thinking of a Indy style build up to the race, if the numbers are high!

Re: The 3rd TORA Wheldon 500
I am interested! The usual Sunday @ 8:00 P.M. GMT/12:00 P.M. PST or Saturday would be my preferred time. From what I am reading, this sounds like a 2 hour timed race based on distance, correct?

I'm very interested in this. If it were on a weekend during early afternoon then I should be available. This sounds like great fun
