Porsche have lost a test car to a fire, probably caused by the hybrid or exhaust recovery system.

The highest ranking FIA license you can get is an F1 license, so yeah on a career level, F1 are the top dogs.

True, but there's nothing above FIA, so that still makes an F1 license top. Everything in that list on Autosport is under the FIA in some respect.

^ NASCAR and Indycar, actually most things that race in America are not FIA. But the top sports car series is, WEC, and it's a step or two down from F1 on the releventmeter.

It's an Autosport list. Autosport is historically heavy on the F1 bias, because they assume that's all their readers are interested in. They'll sell more if they put F1 headlines on the cover, etc...

I'd take that list with a rather large pinch of salt.

2014 is a big year for Sportscar racing, just you all wait.. After the pain of Peugeot pulling out at the last second before a three way fight with Audi and Toyota, we finally have that third manufacturer, and all three of the big guns have brand new cars!

Yeah, Porsche are already gearing up for a full season. I'm tempted to go to Silverstone as Le Mans is looking unlikely for me next year.

Porsche has concluded its 2013 test programme with the new LMP1 race car. The Porsche LMP1 completed its final test laps of the year on the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve near Portimão, Portugal. Testing will resume in early 2014. Porsche AG will field two LMP1 race cars in the sports car World Endurance Championship (WEC) which starts in April 2014, with the Le Mans 24 Hours as the highlight of the season.

The WEC regulations stipulate that manufacturers run hybrid vehicles in the highest class for Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). In developing the all-new LMP1 race car featuring a very efficient, high-performance hybrid drive, Porsche’s engineers are faced with major challenges that can only be solved using innovative solutions....

I bet being one of Porsche, Ferrari, Audi or BMW's ''works'' drivers is far more interesting than pootling around the middle of the grid in F1.

For anyone with short memories, let me recall six years ago, in America. Audi and Porsche both had factory LMP entries in the ALMS. Audi with the R10 TDI LMP1 car, and Porsche with their RS Spyder LMP2 car. Amazingly, Porsche managed to put up a decent fight to Audi's LMP1 brute, and what entailed was a fascinating David & Goliath battle all season long. Definitely one of the more interesting rivalries of recent morosport history.
