TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
Meeting 4, encompassing rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the 2011 MSA TORA Touring Car Championship, will take place on Tuesday 27th of September. The meeting kicks off at 8pm with qualifying, which will involve 6 laps (1 outlap, 4 hotlaps, and an inlap).
Race 1 will be ordered by qualifying time. Race 2 will be ordered by the finishing positions of race 1. Race 3 will be ordered by the reverse of the race 2 finishing positions. Race length will be determined on the night, each race will run approximately 15 minutes long.
As we leave the undulating greenery of Spain and head into the penultimate meeting of the 2011 season, Phenomenal Racers lead the teams championship with a 40pt lead over ATR, although M&M Racing are still in there, snapping at the heels of ATR. The flat, concrete scenery of Sunset Peninsula will favour power, which is something that drivers championship leader Dan2605's Honda Civic isn't traditionally known for. Regardless, we can still expect him to be quick, and with only 17pts in it, NickyF1 will be hoping his Golf GTI can deliver. Yet again, M&M Racing's IanMR and Selective Rogue are still in touch, after struggling to find pace round Iberian.
Two points to clarify further - please remember we are using the Club Reverse layout of this track. Secondly, we plan to deliver a final verdict on any changes to be made to the Honda Civic Type-R by tomorrow (Saturday) evening. This verdict will be updated in this thread.

Kia has been decent here in testing, hitting just under 150mph into the braking zone after the banking.

I'll just need some fill in drivers to keep the team scoring, i'd love to take the teams title, but i'll need some strong drivers to compliment Ruairidh's good pace!

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
UPDATE RE: Honda Civic Type-R parity issues.
Following the Silverstone meeting of the TCC, it was brought to my attention as TCC Co-ordinator that the Honda Civic Type-R 2007 may be running at an advantage over the rest of the TCC car list. The build options on the Civic are to an extent glitched, which was an oversight during the extensive testing put into developing the regulations for this season.
Despite this, I felt it unfair to penalise ATR on the basis of the previous meetings, and decided to take no action for the Iberian meeting. However, with Dan2605 again taking pole by a significant margin, it was clear this issue had to be revisited. After discussing this with Dan, he was very helpful in providing me with the build he'd run for the Iberian rounds.
This tune, along with another development build which exhibited the glitch, and the original test version were benchmarked against the build from my own Kia Forte Koup that had qualified 3rd. They were given 15 laps around Iberian by a number of staff members, and it is clear that in the hands of different drivers the Civic still exhibits a stronger pace than the rest of the car list due to what appears to be an unbalanced degree of grip.
As such, as from meeting 4 at Sunset Peninsula, the Civic Type-R will be run with a 5% Grip handicap. A second group carrying this handicap will be set up in qualifying lobbies, and Civic Type-R drivers will be required to run within this group.
This issue may be revisited following the Sunset Peninsula meeting and adjusted before the final meeting at Sedona.

OH S***!
I'm gonna have to find another way to make the Civic competitive for Sunset.

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
I'll happily accept the conclusion to the Civic. I understand if people weren't happy about the pace of the car.
I'll just have to find a solution somehow to a lack of power cause we're gonna suffer at Sunset, judging by the practice session earlier with myself, Chaddy and Ben with full grip.
However, if this decision costs me this championship, I won't be very happy at all.

Not looking promising so far.
Chaddy - 1:03.2xx
Myself with 5% front and rear grip handicap - 1:04.481
I will place the replay of my test run on my storefront a little later.

I can't improve on a 1:04.4xx
I've tried various different tunes/builds this last hour and I can't get anymore out of it. So how do you think are my team mates are going to fair? I feel sorry for them. But we'll just have to do the best we can for that race. Most likely to end up in lobby B at most!

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
Dan, decision is final, you were happy to accept it earlier. You picked a car that is glitched, and you've run it for three meetings now untouched, but now we have to do something to fix that and make it as competitive as the rest of the car list.
And quite frankly, you're lapping much stronger than I have even achieved yet, albeit I've hardly run many laps round here, so I doubt you're going to be that much off the pace.

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
I was happy until I started testing this morning! I'm just shocked at how much pace I've lost due to this handicap. As you know with these cars as well, its hard to claw any of that time back.
Besides, it wasn't my fault that the car I chose was glitched, I had no idea. Or that it's taken until now instead of the start of the season to get it sorted.

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
It was always clear the Civic was a strong choice for these regs. The grip levels are terribly unbalanced. We can always switch you to your second choice car and expel the Civic from the series.
This decision stands.

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
Fair enough.
I'll stick with the Civic for now but it might be an idea (not sure yet) to switch cars for the last round. We'll seee what the pace is around Sedona Club for the last race first before we as a team decide. I don't want to lose this championship through no fault of mine. Its been two years since either myself or ATR have won anything.

Re: TCC Meeting 4 Discussion Thread - Sunset Club Reverse - 27/09/11
Just done a 10 lap test with Dans civic and the new handicap. My best time is a 1.05.742, 2.5s slower than Chad and about a sec slower than myself in the golf. The replay is on my sf if anyone wants to look at it and i think the 'advantage' is not as much down to the car as people are thinking.

Why is the Civic being pegged back?! It's disadvantaged enough as it is at Sunset.
