This may be from a game (and a fine game at that), but it is a fantastic insight into how unique Darlington is, and helps you really appreciate that stock car racing isn't just turning left.

[Censored] right it's not.
neither is pocono.
darlington is basically choose which side to set up your car for.
terrifying.

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
4:30 onwards is hilarious. It's an online voice chat during the race at the Glen last year. This Youtube user records these chats and posts reactions to parts of the race online. This has it all. Ambrose gets the lead, the big crash at the end and Boris Said's interview.

Righto, the ESPN crew are being quite rightly harsh on Danica's actions at Dega.
Race soon!

Sounds all wonky on Motors.
Could do with good picture quality too.. But then again, that's Motors for you.

Ach, he has provided a few wee anecdotes.
Just wait till the cup race, we'll have Darrell AND Michael Waltrip!

Well, I've been trying to do a lap of Darlington on NR2002. It's almost impossible.

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
Darlington is a very tricky one indeed. that wall exiting turn2 jumps out at you when you least expect it. it used to be turn 4 though, before they swapped which side of the track the start/finish line was on.
i think the Motegi SuperSpeedway has a very similar shape to Darlington. banking is a little different, but one corner of the track is tighter than the other

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
Darlington is all about hitting one apex, banging the throttle back on, drifting it out to the wall then working the thing back down to the apex on the exit. I just have no idea how these guys do it all night long without hitting the walls! And with one corner having more banking than the other, and one corner being tighter, you need a different technique for each end of the track!
In a way Sedonas turns 1&2 drive very much like Darlington. It's a single groove, and you are best to pass on the straights. Darlington is a completely different beast to Motegi. Motegi drives more like Chicagoland or Kansas, fast, wide, grippy corners with multiple grooves.

Denny Hamlin really has that thing hooked up. He's in another league.

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
i know racing games and the real thing dont match upall that much, but the older nascar titles i played, the last being NASCAR 09(im not going to count NASCAR The Game 2011, it sucked arse), i am able to keep my car clean and off the walls. just like that Darrel Waltrip guide to the track, ease off into 1, get the lefts over the dotted line, and basically do the same exiting 2. turn 3 is really the only time you're on the brakes, unless your catching slower traffic

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
I missed today's TORA Clio Cup race lettering an enclosed trailer for a sprint car team... does that count, Louis?
Doing some graphics on a pavement sprint on Monday too. Bad fast car, Phoenix mile track record holder.

I used to have this game.

That's just a poor setup. Shift the wing forwards and you'd be fine.

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
If you're picking up the front wheels, you are way too tight (they'd never say "understeer" in sprint cars) Do the usual stuff to loosen it up a bit: stiffen the rear springs, smaller rear tires, more rear tire air pressure... and move the wing forward.
Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
I recall a NASCAR commentator explaining "tight is when you can see the crash coming, and loose is when you can't"

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
lmao. never heard it explained that way nicky. and I find it weird to listen to nascar commentary now after watching other racing series, and racing with you guys here who actually use the terms understeer & oversteer

Re: 2012 NASCAR (and other roundy roundy racing)
At one point in the nineties, NASCAR had it's own Australian series, and they even raced at Bathurst. Imagine a Cup race on the Bathurst 1000 weekend...
