Richy59 wrote:Its nice out here, and it has to be. We are getting a big [Censored] off crane to lift out our compressor. This thing lifts oil rigs into place, so when it will be along side it will be taller than our rig
Hopefully I can get some pictures.

Of course, Reed Timmer is on this thing and live streaming from New Orleans as its apparently nearly a Cat1 with a 20mile wide eye. Probably a few hours out, but hope everyone stays safe here, and everywhere it goes through.

So far dodged a bullet! Got a few evacuees from New Orleans including my 97 year old "Mama". She's just like my mom.... great lady. She lives down in St. Bernard, La. which got wiped off the face of the Earth during Hurricane Katrina. Poor lady wound up at the Astrodome in Houston, and doesn't speak a lot of English. (she speaks French). Took 5 days to find her back then..... This time she's safe with us.

Re: Weather.
Everyone here is fine. Mama, and family headed back to New Orleans this evening. My brother-in-law was told he had power but when he got back to Terrytown, nada! His house survived fine just lost a piece of siding and the fence is leaning. Tomorrow bright and early I'm sure they will have to check Mama's house out in St. Bernard.

Re: Weather.
I'm in central Louisiana and we lucked out pretty good with Isaac. Lost power for about 6hrs but nothing too serious. New Orleans area and a good portion of Mississippi got the worst of it. Prayers go out to those folks!

Over a foot of snow where I am in Birmingham over the last week. A good 14 inches at least. Still not able to get to work without incident at the moment.

Re: Weather.
"...allowing temperatures to warm into the lower to middle 70s. This has led to concern that there will be a little more instability than earlier thought across Central Alabama late tonight and early in the morning. Without question, there will be strong wind shear. The combination could allow for any individual storms that can form ahead of the main line to produce tornadoes.
Then of course, we will deal with the strong possibility of damaging winds over a wide area with the main line of storms, as well as the possibility of embedded tornadoes."

Re: Weather.
weather was HORRENDOUS down my way, had tropical cyclone Osborne (i think) wreak havic up north, came down, flooded bundiberg (yes where Bundy rum is made), then came down to brisbane (2000km+ south from where it started), flooded brisbane, ipswich and surrounding areas, rained all australia day weekened (bloody Cr*p, second year in a row), so thursday to Monday arvo, power was out from 11-12 Sunday night through to 2:30 Monday arvo. backyard was 2/3 under water, so many trees uprouted, on the way to the shops, 3 huge trees covered the path which i almost hit caining down on my bike. there was 3 massive trees blocking the road to my girlfriends house, so plans ruined there, roads flooded everywhere, thankfully brisbane river didn't break its banks again, and a heap of tornades (yes, we can have them down here) up at bundiberg and down on the gold coast, thankfully no one died (that i can recal), the water is ever so slowly retreating, and the huge cloud has picked up speed as it passes over New South Wales (lucky), so i copped the worst of it :/
oh and 120km/h winds ripping peoples rooves off, certainly an Australia Day weekend to forget.
oh worst of all, the water caused the sea level to rise more, and it was a full moon, which as we all know, causes king tides, almost engulfed the barge jetty near where i live

Re: Weather.
Currently one of those odd cloudy yet sunny days (Very cloudy to the north with the low winter sun illuminating everything.)
I love how Central Glasgow looks in the low sun.
