what does kerbin escape mean? i've managed to shoot my rocket so it's going millions of kms away from earth (well it looks like that) way way pass the moon
Kerbin escape means that you are going so fast that you will escape Kerbin's gravity well. The first skill to master is orbital flight. Reaching Kerbin orbit is the first step in any mission. Try out the tutorials! Spaceflight isn't about aiming and firing, it's about orbital mechanics. Watch a Space Shuttle launch, they don't launch straight up, they pitch over onto their back to fly in an arc. The ISS circles the earth every 90 minutes.

To land on the Mun, you've got to do a proper orbital transfer out to the Mun, and then burn retrograde (backwards) to slow down into Munar orbit (so you start circling the Mun rather than shooting past it, that's called a free return trajectory), then try and land! You want the Mun positioned at 45 degrees ahead of you, and you want to burn prograde (forwards) from behind Kerbin to get your trajectory set to intercept the Mun!

Sometimes I think if these Moon landing conspiracists actually took the time to understand simple orbital mechanics, they'd realise that a flight to the Moon isn't witchcraft, it's actually pretty basic mechanics!
I'll repost this, in case you didn't read it

what do you mean by this:
you've got to do a proper orbital transfer out to the Mun, and then burn retrograde (backwards) to slow down into Munar orbit (so you start circling the Mun rather than shooting past it, that's called a free return trajectory),

Basically, you're circling Kerbin, so when you hit 'M' and look at where the Mun is, you want to burn horizontal (so that you're nose is pointing forwards in orbit) around 45 degrees behind where the Mun is in it's orbit relative to your orbit, this will raise the highest point in your orbit (the apoapsis) to where the Mun will be when you get there.
Then, once you intercept the Mun, you will be influenced by it's gravity. To insert into an orbit around the Mun, you have to point the spacecraft backwards (using the RCS thrusters) and burn to slow down into Munar orbit!

Re: Kerbal Space Program
I've played the demo so much. It's really addictive.
However, many Kerman have been lost in endeavour of greatness

Not trying to derail your thread, but anyone interested in spacey games reeeally need to play FTL!!

0.19 is out! Linux support, atmospheric effects such as reentry heat and vapour cones, Kerbal real-time animations depending on your actions, Rover Wheels for wheeling your rovers, improvements to the graphic system (almost total darkness when on the dark side of a planet), bug fixes, and more parts
The website is currently experiencing some issues (As always when a new update comes out)

Re: Kerbal Space Program
Excellent, I haven't play the game this time home but a new version will be great
Re: Kerbal Space Program
KSP is now available on Steam for those who swing that way All details here:

Re: Kerbal Space Program
can't manage to make it into orbit, rocket either rips apart, or runs out of fuel, fix it from crashing, run out of fuel, add more fuel pulls apart, HELP
Re: Kerbal Space Program
New space center!! Looks awesome https://imgur.com/a/OSyk6#0
Erebus:
1- Build stronger rockets with more fuel... Use the structural supports, they're infinitely rigid (nicknamed "Spacetape" as you apply it as you would celotape) In order to go to Space correctly you must first Orbit correctly. Go up to 70,000+m and then go sideways to 90 degrees. Learn orbit mechanics, it helps (I hope you like circles)
2- Career hasn't even been made it, it should be coming in the next game update.

Re: Kerbal Space Program
I need to play this again, I still had loads of mods in the game and it adds so much to the customization of parts. Managed to convince my mates to get it in the steam sale, hopefully at some stage they can make a multiplayer version and we can launch rockets from the same planet
Re: Kerbal Space Program
They've said many many many times that they will never add a multiplayer mode But I expect a mod to be made when the game is a bit more fleshed out.
Re: Kerbal Space Program
But it would be so cool I just like the idea of having one planet where we can all (or about launch ships from.
Re: Kerbal Space Program
Yeah it would be awesome I think the main issues they have is the timewarp, which no one could use, and so everyone would just be buzzing around the Space Center (unless you want to spend three days going to the moon), and the physics, as the game engine will have to calculate the physics for your ship, and then send the data to everyone else in the game, and vice versa (if you have loads of ships in one place in single player it lags like hell)
Re: Kerbal Space Program
I haven't played this in ages!
A munar sortie is on the cards one night while I wait for payday!

Re: Kerbal Space Program
So true...
I've got back into it. Keep building rockets which are far to big and heavy...
