Hi Ian,
As earlier mentioned, this is not a rankings list. It is a ratings list. As a ratings list, where you fall on it is not equal to where you would be if it was a true rankings list.
A true rankings list would mean that everyone raced each other, and this is not the case for this ratings list. The ratings list only indicates relative skill level from actual competition in actual league races, with drivers from different leagues.
If you finish higher than expected and above those rated higher than you in your room, you will gain points. If you finish below where you were expected to finish and below lower rated drivers in your room, you will lose points. If you finish exactly where predicted, you may gain some points, but will never lose points.
So what matters isn't whether you are 47th, or now 50th, or 112th, what matters is your rating and the class you are in as a driver. The list gives everyone a good idea of where they stand skill wise based on a rating. It's fairly accurate after a few races have been applied.
Another reason this isn't a true rankings list is that your position on the list can change without your rating changing, because, we add new drivers to the list every week. We are up to 358 drivers who are known to compete in league racing from the best known leagues like TORA, VM, IFCA, RWS, SimRacers, ISRA, and FMC, and that number will increase as the year goes on.
Hope this helps everyone understand.
Re: IFCA Top 40 List
Thanks Don.
I get it's a rating system, but we have had one race since the last ratings. And as you are aware I am not a fast driver and not known outside TORA, yet you can see some of the big names that raced at indy, I was 8th on the grid and finished 3rd....not bad in my eyes and better than I have ever done. Then a start 3rd and finish 4th, altho a loose of 1 place everyone ahead was of a higher rank?
I am just tring to work how what the calculation is. I'm 50th and dans 49th, so is Dan 'just' better than me?

Re: IFCA Top 40 List
HAHAHAH!!!!!
I mean, no offence to the guys but I'm behind GunDaM, WWR Aero, Bli33ard, silentalarm42, highcroft... I'm sure I'm "quicker" than at least one of them, and all the results from Forza 4 show me doing so in a majority of cases. Then I'm higher than VVV Worm, miles higher the gen3ral...
I'm sorry but from that update, I'll only hold this new table with the use of cheering myself up with humour.

Re: IFCA Top 40 List
probably because i came really far down in the latest GT race...but that was because i missed qualifying and had to start from last.
it's only as good as the places that the people finish at. and they finished above me at GT's which is why i guess it's like that.
you need more racing to balance it out. i'd say by august you'll get a much better picture.

Hi Ian, yes, I had a double entry on yours, just a simple mistake I'll fix. It can not be fully determined that the 49th rated driver is actually faster than the 50th. The only way to do that is to have a match race with that driver, then, the result could be entered on a true rankings list rather than a ratings list.
There are a lot of drivers who only have 1 or 2 races to their credit, and they won't level off until they get a few more. So, there are some who are somewhat over-rated, and some who are under rated. If you are a fast driver but have a bad race you could end up under-rated. It only takes a few races to regain your previous rating or better however. This happened to RZR Rayzer. He was a Master rated driver but had back to back DNF's and fell to a low Expert of 2100. He climbed back up to about where he was in 5 races, and took a lot of points off other drivers along the way. lol

exactly. it'll balance out over time because you'll have more information. i think this is a great thing and will look for updates.

Re: IFCA Top 40 List
Thanks general, I too thought it was a good idea to try to in some small way at least identify driver skill levels. With so many drivers of varying levels of commitment to the game we decided to only pick those drivers that league race. These are drivers who tend to stay with the game, and be its most hardcore users/drivers. They also tend to be the fastest drivers in actual races.
What we've found so far is sort of what we expected. The faster drivers that we know of do tend to occupy the semi-pro, pro, and master levels. So in this regard the scale and accuracy the ratings list represents is good, and will only get better with time.
Here is a link to last seasons "Bone Stock" series that shows you what a typical race ratings result sheet looks like since we don't post the sheets outside of the IFCA http://ifca.highforum.net/t5259-nurburg-gp-short-ratings-results gives you a better idea of how it works.
btw, qualifying for the IFCA Bone Stock series this Monday is still open, just send me a time with the stock 2000 Audi S4 at Motegi East and we will see you at 7:00pm CST/8:00pm EST.

Thanks.
Is there any time in the future that you may include more on your list? Like ISCC, TCC & WEC?

Re: IFCA Top 40 List
Drivers are starting to issue challenges to those on the IFCA Ratings list. Those who compete in match play will be placed on the new World Rankings list. See if you have been called out! Or call someone out yourself!

Is this supposed to be a take on Castrol Rankings in IRL motorsport?
Also I find that this hasn't been updated in a while... I wonder if there's a way for us and other associations to send you the results and it's updated on a weekly, even monthly basis?

I don't think it is related to the Castrol Rankings. Here's the story, there is a world ratings list, but most people incorrectly saw it as a rankings list. So the idea is to convert the ratings list to a true rankings list. The only way to do this is to have direct one on one match play.
We won't be updating the world ratings list anymore, but will use it as a guide for serving proper challenges for a new rankings list. If you are not on the list, you have 2 options, either compete in an IFCA event, or take the IFCA ratings test.
It seems that most people want rankings more than they want ratings is the point. And rather than fight this opinion, we will comply with it. It will enable people to move their rating and ranking up (or down) more quickly too.
We hope to see some epic one on one battles between the top drivers as we once did back in FM2.
