Re: Suggestion Box
BG Hainesy wrote:So that suggestion worked (was probably already planned), how about another one. Have you (staff) ever thought about running a career-like championship where you stay in the same lobby for each season against the same drivers with relegation and promotion at the end of each season? Obviously for the first season you would have to have a race-off or you would have to seed everyone to get everyone in their correct "league" to begin with. Then newcomers would start in the bottom "league" and have to make their way up season by season. Premier league could use LMP1's, Division 2 go with LMP2's and so on down the leagues.CMGraphix wrote:I'm ignoring this thread on purposeBG Hainesy wrote:I think it would give the pole sitter a bit of limelight that he deserves for setting an awesome time plus give the rest of us mere mortals clues into how he/she is doing it.BG Beanz wrote:BG Hainesy wrote:I have no idea whats in the works for TORA TV coverage of the GT9 season but think it would be a good idea to start the show with the pole lap from Q1 from the in-car view with commentary just like BBC or Sky do for F1.
That would be a good idea actually, never thought of that!
The current system works well because your automatically pitched against people running the same times, so in effect your almost guarenteed a close race .I like the idea but it may put may be off putting to newcomers also. Poor attendance isn't always a product of p*** poor organisation. I quite often have to work from Utrecht in the Netherlands or Monde in Belgium on a Monday & Tuesday so I fly out on a Sunday afternoon to make Monday a bit easier.
If I had a a busy few weeks on the bounce I'd be in the Vauxhall conference in no time and the enjoyment would dissipate quite quickly if people found they were having to run in lobby Z when they're capable of lobby c times.

Re: Suggestion Box
Similar? Completely different really as your idea is based around teams and team owners etc and mine would be strictly privateers only (its the only way my idea would work).Duke of Bruno wrote:This sounds somewhat familiar:Duke of Bruno wrote:...
Going back to some of the earlier discussions on having a multi-tiered series to split up the slower and faster drivers, one way to decide who drives in which level is by separating team owners and team drivers. Team owners choose the drivers for their team, but, the team owners themselves cannot race at the same level as the team that they own. Example: a driver in Tier 3 can own a car and choose the drivers for Tier 1; one of those drivers in Tier 1 can own a car and choose the drivers for Tier 2; and one of those drivers in Tier 2 can own a car and choose the drivers for Tier 3. People not racing can own a team in any Tier. However this idea does not allow for any privateer teams.

I was going off of this:

I like this, could also work in a way that manufacturers 'make offers' to drivers and teams, instead of the drivers just deciding what car they want?
I suspect that would need to be managed by the Staff, picking teams to drivers in sort of the same way it happens in RL.
Also sounds more complicated once typed out than in my head!

Re: Suggestion Box
Obviously this is not intended as an alteration to any other series running on Tora so it wouldn't change the current system, rather have its own. Admittedly it would be more appealing to people who show up for most races but then that's not a bad thing. And if you were say a league A superfast guy and got relegated to league B and you only turned up to half the races you wouldn't get relegated to league C because you would pick up more than enough points to avoid it because you are faster than the rest and would be near the front in all races you do compete in.OcR Project239X wrote:

Re: Suggestion Box
"Teams" would work well within your model Hainsey, either within the same level or across multiple levels. And, with a Team Championship at each level it might help people branch out and work with people would not have otherwise.
The only real difference between these systems is how the drivers get promoted and demoted between the different levels. You would have the drivers season end results determine who would move up or down; Mandown would have the staff act as "owners" to determine who moves up or down; while I would have the rest of the community determine who would go up or down.
Using your example, the league A superfast guy would be able to get into the League A even after only racing half of the season in League B as an "owner" would be able to recognize his speed while a points based promotion system would hold him in League B. Having someone act as "owners" would prevent Premier league / Tier 1 drivers from getting frustrated and leaving because they would have to go through many seasons just to get to a level where they are competing and not just blowing the rest of the field away.

Re: Suggestion Box
Agreed, it would take a driver with league A pace who is a newcomer to show perseverance to get to the league they are most sorted to but that is the type of person that is a benefit to the community.

Re: Suggestion Box
At the end of say the GT Season, could we have a kind of Top Gear Awards type thing, where you could post a poll of say three of the best overtakes/crashes/most improved etc, everyone votes, and the winner gets the "award" for said accolade?

Re: Suggestion Box
For every championship can we have a post from the championship organiser with the lobby settings that will be used.
Would makes things a lot easier when practicing/tuning/testing cars. At the moment we can try to guess the settings from the championship rules (or try to nab them from a test session) but a post from the organiser with the settings that will be used would be appreciated.

Re: Suggestion Box
I think this is how our newest members have been registering with our forum, through facebook, the only way they get changed to match their gamertags is by forum staff. But when that happens there needs to be a clear message, to send to the person wanting their ID changed, because they then have to log in with that new ID.

The Welcome to TORA! thread could also include something about Xbox Live Connectivity
It is linked on the Introduce yourself to TORA thread, but, it is not an obvious link.

Re: Suggestion Box
some sort of donation tool / button with running total and targets of things that would help.
https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/send-money-online
eg: for the staff/people that regularly do the streaming
Fast upload speed broadband package in their area
streaming PC
Streaming/Capture software/hardware
editing Software
I personally would donate a small sum as its very hard long work already let alone having equipment that hinders

Agreed, I would also donate what I can on the condition I know it's going towards helping the community or supporting the staff in what they do here, rather than it being Fag/Ciggarette money lol.
I also do video/photo/sound editing as it's part of my course, paying for the right system to use it on let alone the software and the kit required is extremely costly, so I feel for you guys there.

The racing school idea has been mentioned a few times. Personally, I don't like it. Seems quite patronising to be honest, particularly if its compulsory.

Re: Suggestion Box
If driving standards are such an issue, then ban driver aids on all events.
Undesirables will give up easy, and the real racers who want professional competition will learn, and everyone will have more respect for each other on track.
I used to race at UKOG in the Forza 2 days, and this was their main philosophy. It worked!

i know it's not a huge deal, but at VM, they have two american timezones, UK timezone, and Australian Eastern time for the races, and it's great, saves me from missing races from miss calculated times
if we could have that here, it would be great
