What kilroy said, its different cause of the development but it should be a better game than fm5

Not too fond of the ability to "dial in" the way the game feels like that. Sounds like something exploitable.

The game was intended for both wheel and pad users from the start, theres a 320 page thread in the development forums dating back to 2012 just for controller settings, so wherever this 'intended for wheels usets only' has come from is entirely wrong.

Project CARS. - Page 13 Empty Re: Project CARS.

Post by II AntR II Fri 8 May 2015 - 22:12

So, I got the game yesterday and I´m not really sure how I should feel after playing for a few good hours.

Starting with the minor stuff. BUGS! BUGS everywhere. Settings that don´t save, errors on joining multiplayer sessions, random "crashes" against invisible walls, thousands of things. Framerate can be unstable sometimes but it is more than acceptable while tearing is rather annoying. No spectate mode is a bummer but the lobby options and 60FPS replay do make up for it.

The big bad stuff. The controller..... no, seriously. I´ve tried dozens of settings, changed the tune setup... everything I could have possibly ever imagined in my brain and nothing works. There is no middle term. You either have a big deadzone where you can´t turn and countersteer or you accept the risk of having an over-sensitive car with all the problems associated with it. That means lack of precision, difficulties in keeping the car straight ON A STRAIGHT, etc. What makes me even more angry is that the physics are absolutely fantastic! There is grip, weight balance is staggering and braking is phenomenal. It really is that good. The feedback you get from the controller is terrible though, so are the controls. Its a shame really, everything is wasted because of it.
Is it still possible to drive? Yes, if your finger has nanometer precision. Otherwise you are gonna have a bad time, specially when only part of the joystick is used to steer (big outer deadzone).
Another big problem is a bug in the qualifying/race results. It is not the first time that I finished first in the Qualifying and start third in the race. If that wasn´t enough, the same thing happens in the atual race. Finish first and in the race results you appear dead last. Watch for this TORA.

Overall? The game has fantastic graphics, great physics, excellent lobby options, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ROSTER OF CARS, Donington Park, great selection of tracks, rain, night, etc. What I like most is dat motorsport feel Smile

BUT! They have to fix this. Fast!

Controller setting on PC system that back then they couldn't make up their mind on what platform to make the game on.

I wasnt knocking WMD for making the game better suited for wheel users cuz they did, but it's not really a bad thing cuz they have the controller some thought in allowing ppl fine tune their settings more than before.

Yeah I'm having trouble with the controller too. I've tried out Magic's magic settings but they actually seem to make it worse for me scratch probably just goes to show my impeccable driving skills Razz I've just used the standard Mode 3 with a minor adjustment to the deadzone but it still feels funky. I've found that tuning your car's steering ratio helps a lot.

Not much bugs on my end other than one sound bug.

Apparently there is a way to live spectate a race, its a bit convoluted to do but not had chance to test it yet.

Soundwave, you don't know what your talking about, Project Cars has been a console title from Day One, I personally spoke to Andy Tudor about its development on 360 in July 2011. Every console game is coded on a PC, the beta was PC only because retail console cant run unsigned beta code. SMS know that 90% of their sales will come from the 32 million next get console owners, hence why the game was always developed for console and PC. Please stop spreading baseless facts and rumour unless you have real information to back it up.

Stan, try moving your steering ratio as slow as it will go (and remember to do it in every car at every track, or save the tune to all tracks from the garage) Smile

Oh really? Cuz I'm pretty sure the intial releas was set for PC and old gen consoles. Then WMD delayed their release cuz they wanted to make the game for next Gen, good on them. Like you I've followed development since day one, but I'm not a fan and read between the lines and facts of what's being presented.

Please tell me more about how you were personally responsible on making such a great game?

Project cars was always multiplatform, originally PC, 360, PS3 and Wii U. Once next gen was announced WMD investors (of which ive been since 2011) voted on whether to move to next gen, which they did thankfully! The truth is project cars could not have been made without the consoles sales, they need the volume from the large console market to pay for the development costs, so it was never PC only Smile

Yeah the handling is a big struggle but when you use some settings people are sharing it is just some testing and get a feel of it. And some problems indeed like wheel lock but O guess these will sort out with a small polish update:)

Lets hope so... so the core of the game itself is fine apart from small little problems ?... also how bad is the wheel lock ???
Yea the game itself is just awesome! Well with the wheel lock, you need to let go the stick and then turn in again if you are in a lock. Sometimes anoying but with better control settings then standard it's just drivable and much better then what it was.

The game simulates the real steering rack of the car, so you can't steer faster than the physics of the car will allow, no matter his fast you move the stick. Same with gear changes, you can't shift/downshift faster than the cars gearbox will allow.

Yeah you see, that is not the issue. The steering gets stuck no matter where you turn your joystick and the lack of precision makes it almost impossible to correct it.

The problem is not the physics/game. The problem is the calibration and input management of the joystick/controller.

I tried the settings and they are better than the default ones but they don´t inspire any confidence at ALL. Its like you keep fighting the center of the wheel forever, even on the straights, which is ridiculous.
I just want similiar center dampening that Forza has. No matter how terrible the Forza Franchise is, that was one (and the only one) of its strong points.

I know but it's a bug. If im turning right sometimes the car goes all the way to the left with my stick to the right. Looks like ''What is right? Oooo I guess you mean left! well here ya go!'' lol Razz

Yeh Magic is, there was 6 of us I think maybe more who have been involved since day one. A few of us involved from even earlier discussing a possible racing game with Andy Tudor before it was announced for any development after they split from EA after being forced to include drifting an tone down shift 2 to a arcade game from full sim.

The game is one that has bugs but there is many things being fixed already and will be out soon. Just think this has been developed on 3 million funding from gamers not 60 million from MS and Sony so what's out is a huge achievement for SMS.
