After all the hype around PC, the delayed release dates, there's more bugs in this game than you'd find in a New York hotel bed! I'm pushed to say I can't really find anything within this game that makes it any better than FM4 or worse than FM5. Bit disappointed TBH. Hopefully the update roll out will fix the bugs but not having a livery editor on the console version is a little strange and missed.

Oh and the controller glitch, need I say any more on that fiasco!

Theres no livery editor on any versions just PC users can alter stuff in Paint Shop Pro. All I can say is at least it works unlike driveclub and other releases lately just a few niggles to iron out lol.

I think my only gripe is the occasional odd sound glitch where, particularly with the Merc and BMW GT3s the engine note picks up an odd echoey distortion usually on downshifts. Other than than that it's all very promising.
Lots of potential here.

I really really like this game. Which is quite unusual as recently I fell out of favour with gaming all together.

Having not raced competitively online since Autumn 2014, I've found myself having to relearn certain skills that regular career mode in FM5 doesn't give you. Particularly patience. In FM5, you have 3 laps to battle from the back to the front which led to some pretty heavy & clumsy overtakes, now I have to actually sit behind the car & really work an opening for myself and line up the move, and even then I have to back out of it if the gap is closing.

The AI is fantastic in that regard. Career mode could be like playing online for me. On FM5 there were certains parts of a track where the AI would go stupidly slow & you could squeeze past 5 at once. But not on CARS. I'm fortunate because my pace is very similar to the AI on 90% & I can get phenomenal racing because of that. I'm not winning every race & grabbing poles, I'm getting consistent top 5s and podiums & I much prefer that to blowing all the AI out of the water.

Aside from the slight stuttering & occasional bug (certainly none that I would call game breaking), this is absolutely tip top. I've only done 4 Formula Rookie races (including changeable conditions at Donington!) and really do love the driving, the racing, the race weekend feel of things with practice and qually. Shame I'm working quite a lot at the minute, but I'm head over heels for this game. It's brought back my love of not just racing, but gaming completely I love you

Glad your enjoying it Kilroy, it really is a breath of fresh air compared to Forza - a proper motorsport sim, really captures what's exciting about racing. There are some annoying bugs on the Xbox One version atm, but the devs will be working on that and get a patch out as soon as they can, even with the glitches it's still brilliant fun Smile

It's certainly a big learning curve. I've been so used to driving with no assists in Forza but now the only thing I've got turned off is ABS. Going to have to re-learn how to drive with no assists.

Loving this game so far though.

CQR MAGiC wrote:For people picking up Project CARS today, reset your expectations of how hard the game is - it's substantially harder than Forza and is going to take time to adjust to. Many people are finding the default pad settings too twitchy, so I've posted this up on CQR site to help our members and though this may help people here at TORA too:

--

**VERY IMPORTANT**

BEFORE DOING ANYTHING WITH PAD SETTINGS! - Make sure you have the latest controller firmware installed on the Xbox One pad, go to Settings > Devices and Accessories and Update Controller.

--

OK, spent 2 days fiddling with the padding settings as they were far too twitchy for me on defaults.

I think what's going on is, that the defaults are set for 'jabbers'  who like to throw the stick over full left, then correct full right etc, so they need it to 'twitch'. I drive with my thumb on the stick, moving it around gently like a mini wheel which doesn't work with the default settings.

Quick note on the settings - by setting Mode 1, 2 or 3 at the bottom that doesn't just change the defaults for the values above, each mode has subtly different 'hidden' tuning that will affect the handling. I've focused on Mode 3 so far, so set MODE 3 FIRST before trying these.

I went too far with the settings initially and made it too dull and unresponsive, which is good in a way that there are enough options to enable that - but with CQR Dazzo and CQR Phil testing too, we've come up with something that works quite well in most cars - the Clio, Formula Rookie and GT3 all feel good with these settings. Haven't done a lot with the throttle and braking settings yet, so they need more work.

SET MODE 3 FIRST!
Steering Deadzone - 20% (can decrease this if you have a new 'stiff' pad, or increase if more worn)
Steering Sensitivity - 5% (increase if it feels to numb)
Throttle Deadzone - 10%
Throttle Sensitivity - 10%
Braking Deadzone - 10%
Braking Sensitivity - 10%
Clutch Deadzone - 5%
Clutch Sensitivity - 45%
Speed Sensitivity - 75% (changing this affects how much steering ratio you get as the speed increases)
Controller Filtering Sensitivity - 25% (increase this to smooth out the inputs more)
Mode = 3
Advanced options = All set to ON

Also, be aware that EVERY car also has it's own independent Steering Ratio setting - this is saved PER CAR. Adjusting that affects the speed of the steering rack in the car, so for example on a Formula A car you may want a faster rack so you can turn faster, in a slower car like a Clio, a slower rack.

I'll keep testing and refining the settings over the next few days and weeks, but already it's feeling massively better for me than the twitchy defaults!

There's also a very good guide on the new Official Project CARS forums at:
http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?21992-Setting-up-a-gamepad

CQR thread: http://cqrclub.co.uk/forum/m/5201082/viewthread/19375203-project-cars-xbox-one-pad-settings

Guess what I just found out...

Your welcome, its not 100% there yet but a good step in the right direction and makes the game feel more Forza-like. We had 3 pad players using these new settings and 3 TX wheel users racing in multiplayer last night and everyone was able to race competitively, in Clios and GT3s. We'll keep testing and updating the settings if we find something better. If its still a bit too twitchy, make some subtle adjustments like increasing the Controller Filtering Sensitivity and Speed Sensitivity a few notches.

...yup, even with Magic's improved setup, the thing is just ruining my enjoyment of what's supposed to have been a console racer in the first place, I'm spinning every damn car in the game, even though im on the PS4, even though I've had nearly a year away from any kind of racing game, this game may be going back to the shop sooner rather than later...

Try turning opposite lock help on in the advanced settings - that'll give you opposite lock assistance which is similar to the Normal steering setting in Forza, without that its more like forza's Sim steering option. And use assists too, TCSz ABS until you get comfortable with the handling. Its significantly harder than Forza or Gran Turismo Smile

I'm trying out a few cars and I prefer the steering much slower with Advanced being OFF. With it being on it makes everything really twitchy. Gotta say, I was really disappointed when I first fired it up but it's getting there. Just needs tweaking like calibrating on PC.

That's useful to know, that suggests that Advanced OFF sets opposite lock help on and vice versa. So if people are used to Normal steering on Fotza, try Advanced Off, if order Sim steering put Advanced on. Like you say, its all about calibration, get it to your liking. It something wheel users have to do on every game, Forza included and especially on PC racing sims.

Games like Forza and Gran Tran are your "First Step", they may not be what most people want, but there's enough there to motivate people to move onto stronger things on PC, like I thought I was in 2007 when moving to rfactor and Live for Speed, I was way out of my depth when I made the transition, and serves me right.

But to have this happen to me on a console, the zig zag of zero talent down the straights, the spins before braking in a front wheel drive car, the spins out of corners in rear wheel drive cars, and not being able to correct them, it is unbelievably frustrating.

Which is why it belongs on a PC, if its THAT accurate...

If it's meant to be a console racer, it needs to be toned down, this is probably why Slightly Mad were frustrated with their time on Shift 2.

They say 80,000 people using PC Software/Hardware made this game? No wonder it sucks on a console.

Change your brake balance, console has been far to easy and relaxed for to long thats why no decent racing games are made, to be a sim it has to be hard give it time and learn it.

Erm, Adrian you do realise this is a simulator? (The S in CARS stands for Simulator). You need to treat it like a real car, start off slow, build up heat in the tyres and steadily increase your speed. If the cars were on rails and auto corrected themselves you might as well play GRID!
