Re: iRacing
Guys can you give me a little feedback on the comparisons between iRacing and us in terms of how the online events are organised/run?
Of course keeping in mind our non-existant budget

Re: iRacing
Sorry for the late reply, only saw this today iRacing is very similar to TORA when it comes to the iWT (iRacing World Tour). They have their own servers in Australia, Netherlands and Massachussets so if you're a European doing NASCAR, chances are you're going to be in an american server. Qualifying used to be split into "lobbies" like TORA but instead of using Q Times, they use iRating (a system that rates how fast you are by your results) They don't have the most appealing calender though. There is 4 Oval Events and only 3 Road events. So if you hate turning left its not for you. TORA is the exact same as iRacing in comparison to how everything is run and handle, IMO couldn't be better.

Bli33ard wrote:Chaddy was telling me that your rating improves if you have no contact too?
There are two ratings that each "iRacer" has. Safety Rating and iRating. Safety Rating is basically a measurement of you CPI (Corners Per Incident). There are also license levels;
- Rookie
- D Class
- C Class
- B Class
- A Class
- Pro/WC
As a rookie it is very easy to get a higher license. ( 3 clean races will get you a big boost while an B Class will take 20 clean races to get an A Class , depends on the length of the race ) If you get a Top 10 in an A Class Championship ( NASCAR Sprint or Formula 1 ) you get a Pro License in which you can compete for $10,500 prize among 50 other drivers.
iRating:
Is a rating which depends on results of your races. If you finish in the top half of the race you get a + number while in the bottom half you get a - number.
I've made it sound very complicated from the way I've described it but once you get the gist, its absolutely simple
Re: iRacing
New build is out now. Lotus 49, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and a few other things. Won't be home until Friday. Anybody try the Lotus out? Supposedly to be extremely difficult to drive...
Re: iRacing
If anyone is interested - I've started live streaming and capturing my iRacing practice, quali, TT & races on Twitch.tv : (http://www.twitch.tv/magictap) - If you want to see what iRacing is like this may give an insight - I will be mainly racing the MX5 but will jump in other cars also occassionally. More so as my career develops.

Re: iRacing
@Matt - Ref comparison to TORA:
iRacing has no lobby hosts, it is all automated. There are driving sections to choose from: Practice, Time Trial, Quali & Race. These are in slots which you select to enter. Races are usually 30 mins apart. Once you have selected join it counts down to the lobby start time, then you can press join. You have about 5 mins to press join otherwise you forfeit (think it scores against you too for it). This takes you to the lobby where you are free to practice until the start. Grid is automatically formed once practice timer runs out, but you can choose to start from the pits by not pressing GRID, you have one minute to wait unless all racers press grid before -hand. Then the timer counts down and red goes to green, you are off. Black flags, white flags, blue flags etc are all automated. Results are all automated and displayed in a separate browser window once leaving the session also. Results can be accessed anytime in you stats for any race you've run. I find I usually can't select a race until I have qualified. Didn't used to be like this but lately thats the way it's been for me.
Basically - TORA is replicating most of iRacing manually. With retrospective penalties. Main difference is every week, you can choose whenever you wish to race in whatever series you have access to. You can race as many times in any series weekly event and it averages your score / results. TORA, has a calendar of events, if you can't make a race, that's tough. But no way around this and actually more realistic!!

Re: iRacing
Hey dudes, I just signed up to iRacing after getting a free 3 month trial. I am not going to be on much for the next few weeks but if yall want to add me...
Alfred Shepperd (note the spelling of the last name)
I'd appreciate someone helping me get the hang of it. I signed up for a 3 months about 3 years ago, and was profoundly unimpressed. From what I have heard, they have addressed many of the issues I had with the sim back then (primarily that it was super US centric and oval centric... And Played exactly like Nascar 2004 (mainly because it effectively was nascar 2004.

Re: iRacing
Hey dude. welcome. Be happy to help. One thing I'd suggest is not to buy any additional content until your career requires it. Unless you have spare cash and want to of course ;O)
I'll add you on there. Also I refer to the 2 vids early from insidesimracing. I posted on the previous page in this thread!

one race per week for 4 weeks
4 circuits, one per week, all come with membership (Laguna Seca, Summit Point Park, Lime Rock Park, Okayama International Circuit)
