It really is very very good looking. Can't deny that. A console version would be excellent. Truely....excellent. And NOT by EA thank you Wink

Yes, it's confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. I can't post here cos of NDA restrictions, but the plans for the career mode looks great, far more interesting than Forza's rather dry and dull approach!

Meh, who uses Forza's career anyway?

If I had a capable PC, I'd already be all up in that beta, but I'll have to wait another year at least.

Here's Alan from VVV with another video.

Really nice roster of tracks so far, some really nice fantasy ones too. I'd like to see a couple more ovals for that Stock Car too.

Exactly, Forza's career mode is pointless, just a collection of dull races! CARS has something much better Very Happy

Good video, not seen that one before

Even then though. I think I'll be content with simply driving the cars around the tracks on my own in cars. Forza doesn't give the full on exciting raw feeling that PC sims tend to give. I'll happily sit at my desk and turn laps around tracks like Watkins Glen and Bathurst all day long.

Yeah for hard core racers that's always going to be the case, but for the other 95% the career mode is their doorway into the game - so it should be there to support the player, teaching them how to drive, how to race, how to set-up the car and generally improve their skill, rather than just 'a bunch of single player' races which is what most racing game career modes are, it's just lazy. Other games do this successfully, e.g. FPS's gradually introduce new weapons and equipment as you progress, RPG's introduce skills and abilities as you progress.

Looks amazing! Too bad I won't be able to run it on my PC :/

I hope it does come out next-gen, because it'll be so dimmed down it'll hardly be worth it and we'll all just end up back on Forza.

I hope Microsoft has something up it's sleeve for E3 this year.... *wink wink*

Well, it's being developed with the next gen in mind at least.

They'll probably give us a diluted version of this, and then release a sequel closer to it's PC counterpart for the next gen?

Whatever they do, there are a lot of very nice cars and a lot of very nice tracks, and I can't wait to give it a go, no matter what platform.

I think (hope!) we'll be pleasantly surprised by the Xbox 360 version of CARS - the 360 has shown that it can produce excellent graphical fidelity and high frames with games like Forza 4, Crysis 2 etc, and as CARS is based on the Shift 2 engine which ran perfectly well on the 360! Yes, the PC version will clearly have a graphical edge, but the core game engine will be the same across all platforms, it will be things like screen resolution and texture detail that will vary. So the PC will support 1080p at 60 frames per second, whereas the Xbox 360 version will likely be 720p at 30fps (same as Shift 2).

As for all the next-gen console version rumours, I'm trying to get clarification from SMS themselves, but I'm 99% sure that their focused on current-gen hardware for the games launch. The developer documentation states it's being developed for '4 platforms' (PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U), and the so-called Xbox 720 screenshots that people have seen was an April's Fools joke by SMS (which I think has backfired a bit cos people are now expecting a next-gen Xbox version). Focusing development time and resources on a next-Xbox version that may or not be released til the end of 2013/early 2014, and then only have a tiny installed user base compared to current consoles, is probably not viable for an independent developer like SMS, unlike T10 who have the backing and support of Microsoft.

Good hands-on preview (the PDF document link in the article is well worth reading too, explains and confirms a lot of things about the game):

Mark, apparently the Force Feedback in the latest update is drastically improved. I know that it's kind of a moving target at the moment because everything's constantly being tweaked, but how does the handling compare to Shift 2?
Personally I wasn't much of a fan at all (I'm a pad user for starters, and apparently the only real chance you had of Shift 2 not feeling completely terrible was with a wheel), mostly because, to me, there felt like a disconnect between my control inputs, and the effect on the car.

I haven't got the latest build yet (211 is for more senior members only) and I only use the pad too, but even in previous builds the handling feels more 'solid' than Shift 2, like the cars have more weight rather than sliding around all the time (especially at the rear). The biggest issue with Shift 2 was the awful default configuration for the controller (and wheel) - I spent hours fiddling around with the deadzones and speed sensitivity settings etc which made a massive improvement to the feel of the handling - shame the cars still had too much lift-off oversteer! I made a video of the improved settings:

Shift 2 controller setup:

I can't capture Project CARS videos, but CQR CHRiS made a little video of the Formula A (1) car around Silverstone Arena a few months ago, I think this was using the Fanatec wheel:

I enjoyed Shift 2 with a wheel but you just had to get used to 'floating' your car around the track. Had some good races though.

I'm waiting to get my hands on CARS, but every video I have seen just looks like the cars behave and react just like Shift 2. I'm considering getting the beta next time I'm home.

Next gen dev xbox went into secret production quietly a little while ago. I would presume the latest intel/nvidia type nano architecture being utilised which will put the next gen xbox inline with the current latest high end pc's on release.
