Re: 2012 Indycar Series
Well, according to Danica, you can't pass on a road course!
I think HPD will up the game engine wise as the season progresses, Texas will be a good indicator of that.
Sato qualified on pole at Iowa last year, he seems to like the place, and it proves he is no slouch on the ovals. I'd be disappointed if Taku didn't get a win this year. That might have been his only shot at an Indy win, but you never know..
As far as the 2012 season has gone so far? Double thumbs up from me. The exciting race at Indy this year has done the series a lot of good. I'm really looking forward to the flat out racing at Fontana later in the year. I can sense an old CART Hanford Device type race happening!

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
A couple notes:
Sato was fastest in the wet first practice session at Belle Isle. Rubeno was second quick.
In a much drier second session, Will once again rose to power, with the Hondas of Wilson and Pagenaut in P2 and 4 respectively. Evidently not all of the Hondas got the "sandbag to get more boost" memo from Ganassi.
And after two decades and a couple hundred Grands Prix, Rubens Barachello was awarded Rookie Of The Year for the 2012 Indy 500. Cheers!

Practice 3.
Dixon went on to take the pole. Video will be uploaded shortly I'd imagine.

Texas!
Cars running very low downforce packages, so the drivers are having to drive into these corners.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
Texas was pretty good. Nobody got hurt, so it could be considered a success on that point. Spoiler alert...
Justin Wilson winning made it a great race.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
It was real good race from the stands and even better on TV. Most of us in the stands were cheering for Rahal to win after he got the lead.
I got an up close look at the fence the drivers have been complaining about. I wouldn't want my head going into that fence the way they have it. It's got the poles and cables toward the inside of the track and the chicken wire on the outside. It's designed to keep debris from going into the stands, not for driver safety. It’s same fence design as used in Las Vegas and some other tracks.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
I missed the race as it was on from around midnight til dawn here, but from what I've seen, it looked a good race.
And Joostin won, which is great! I remember watching F3000 when he was winning all the time!

I found it to be a truly entertaining race, and the best IndyCar hgh-banked oval race I have watched since the 98-02 CART races at Michigan (Hanford Device era).
Congratulations to Justin Wilson on a well deserved triumph!
I was never a fan of "pack racing", it's contrived and idiotic...it's Nascar.

The race at Indy really had me looking forward to the oval races, unlike previous years where everyone was in packs. Fontana should be a blast with these new cars..
Now we need Indycar to let the teams turn the wick up, I want to see them run at least 700hp on the ovals.

Waiting for the Iowa race to start. Remembering DW tonight a day after his birthday.

Well the Indycar season is finished. (And since no one has bothered to post who the champion was, i'll post it now: SPOILER ALERT!)
Congrats to Ryan Hunter-Reay! And Ed Carpenter, winner of 500 miles on Fontanta!

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
I have an increaed respect for Mike Conway. After some practice at Fontana, he decided to get out of the car and withdraw from the race, citing that he did not feel safe on the ovals. Seeing as he almost got killed in his Indianapolis crash a couple years back, and he got caught up in the wreck that killed Dan Wheldon, I not just understand his position, but applaud it.
Takes balls to admit that something about one's career is too unsafe to do.
That being said, I wonder where he will end up next year. Indy has too many ovals to justify skipping them, and he is too good a driver to get passed over. I hope he ends up in a quality ALMS/Grand Am/WEC team, as he is one hell of a good racer.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
I would have watched the race at Fontana had it not been on at silly o'clock.
I mean, a 500 mile race around there with a title going down to the wire, and with the sort of drafting we were getting at Indy.. I really wish I could have watched it!

nicky, if you get the chance to watch a replay, do so. It was rather exciting throughout.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
Power isn't very strong on the Ovals so next season he really has to win EVERY road race to stand a chance. The best Oval racer for me is Franchitti followed by Dixon. Would love to See Franchitti win the title again and one more Indy 500 before he retires.

Re: 2012 Indycar Series
Power was mega gutted after he spun out. Bit random though as well wasn't it?
Re: 2012 Indycar Series
What a race that was to end the season. I feel bad for power, but ryan earned it. He won at Baltimore(which I'm happy to say, I was there in person that weekend) and then even with power wrecking, still had to get 5th or better. He did an awesome job.
