So Fanatec now have THREE new wheels coming for the 360, and are all very expensive most likely...

- A 8 directional D-Pad, in the design of the Ferrari "Engine Start"
- 8 Easy accessible buttons
- My favourite thing of all, the manniteno dials (Race mode, TCS off, etc) changes your car view!

Officially licensed by Ferrari, it comes out in October in time for Forza 4! This thing is a beauty!!

Good news a band news from fanatec. Some new pics from Gamecom of their 2 new upcoming wheels.

First is the new 'ClubSport' wheel with it's inter-changable wheel, which currently has the F1 version (pictured) and a GT version. There will be a NASCAR version soon as well.

Official New Wheel Discussion - Page 2 111
Official New Wheel Discussion - Page 2 211
Official New Wheel Discussion - Page 2 410

Second is the Forza 4 branded 'CSR Elite' which we all know off

Official New Wheel Discussion - Page 2 511

Comparison between the two wheel.

ClubSport wheel (CSW)

-about 450 without rim
-different rims will be available from 150 USD upwards
-metal base as seen in video
-PC and PS3 only
-QR system with many more wheel rims to come (Fanatec system)
-supports additional axis, encoder switches etc.
-rev indicator bar

Forza Motorsport CSR Elite wheel (CSR E)

-500 USD incl wheel rim
-same metal base as the CSW
-PC, PS3 and X360
-No QR but wheel rims can be easily replaced if you prefer a different rim style
-Amount of buttons and axis are limited to what the gaming consoles support
-no rev indicator bar

So the Forza wheel, which is the only one that works on the Xbox, loses the rev feature and the quick release feature but can still be inter-changed...and costs more money.

I have the MS Wheel and have had it for about 5 years, bought it when Testdrive Unlimited (original) was released. I have never had any probs with it, its still going strong, but looking at some of those more expensive ones i might look at buying a newer more rigid one with the 3 pedals.

TBH i cant play any racing games on controller, i need my wheel and mark once you start using the wheel you wont go back to the controller ever again.

the only downside to these wheels is there is no analogue sticks so you have to keep switching to and from the controller when your tuning and painting as doing it using the D pad is next to impossible, and you cant look out the side windows while going down the long straights to see that other car your overtaking.

Over the last 18 hours, I spent less than $500 USD (take that fanatec) for a full wheel&seat setup. Once I get all the pieces in (hopefully before next weekend), I'll take some pics. My question to those who already use the wheel, is how long is the typical learning curve from controller/pad to the wheel? And, couldn't I just keep the controller set as 'player 2' for the headset and chat-pad? Or do I constantly have to switch back and forth?

When I used my MS wheel all I did was pull the plug at the back to cut the power, then switch on the controller and just start using it. When I went back onto the wheel I just unclipped the battery from the controller and turned the wheel back on. Simple, and you get used to it. I also use a wireless mic so I didn't have to worry about that.

Post by JustOZ71 Sat 27 Aug 2011 - 9:10

@Richy. I do the same thing with the power on the wheel and the battery on the controller to switch between them, but i did discover that sometimes if i start the game with the controller and then switch to the wheel for the race the game doesn't recognise the wheel and all the buttons are still set to the controller and then you have problems using the wheel.

@ Mark. Quote me if im wrong but when you sign in to xbox live the controller slot (as in the light on the ring on your power button) is assigned to your gamertag and you have to have the mic plugged into it, so when you switch controllers you have to also switch the mic cable. I use the Turtle Beach headset as i found the wireless microsoft ones are really quiet and it picks up the sound of the game in the background then i end up on permenent send cus i have 5.1 surround.

Also i dont think you can have 2 players on the game whilst playing on multiplayer sop you have to have your headset plugged into player 1 conroller, wether thats your wheel or the controller, unless of corse you have 2 xbox's, 2 games and of course 2 accounts.

I swapped from conrtroller to wheel whilst playing Testdrive Unlimited a long time ago but if i remember it did take a couple weeks to feel comfortable and i should imagine you loosing a couple secs of lap time until your comfortable with it. But mark im sure with that amount of money spent your going to persivere.
hope this helps

@ Johnny there is some conversation over whether FFB is worth it or even accurate at that. It sure is a blast to use and I feel like it makes me faster.

As far as learning curve goes, it's fairly steep. What I've seen so far is even having to change set ups that worked on the controller but not on the wheel. I'm still learning but I've never been faster...period... Cool

Post by johnnyboy360 Fri 9 Sep 2011 - 7:40

Yeah, the wheel just adds realism to it. Not sure about how much more quicker you can go, but with any wheel I have never been faster. As far as I knew, FFB just pushes against the wheel to feel like you are driving a car properly. I have used a Logitech wheel at Mercedes Benz World, and they got race pods with GT5 in them, and a GT Wheel. Well, it seems like all but 1 of the wheels have been broken, because you can turn the wheel about 9 times and no steering happens. And GT5 is crap anyways! Who drives an SLS at 100MPH and all of a sudden the car starts to pop wheelies!? It's crap!!!

That's awesome!! I can see Thrustmaster written on the top wheel but I really had to look it over! And IMVHO I don't see GT5 as crap, it's not perfect but it feels really great! There are many issues with online racing, downforce settings and other issues but overall a great experience. Just my opinion mind you...
