Re: TCC Season 7 (Q1 2013) Testing - Phase 2 Open - *** Car List & Testing Instructions on Page 1 ***
I have a CSR and have completed clutch starts on VTCC without any issues on numerous occasions.
I use the ACL firmware and have my handbrake set as 'B' on the wheel - I can definitely do it with 2 hands on the wheel - maybe I have huge hands

CQR Rusty wrote:Other thing we do ( im giving away all my best material now ) is we do a top 10 reverse grid. So finish 10th, start pole, finish 11th, start 11th! If you do this, make sure the points system is suitable to stop sandbagging and getting 10th and an easy win from the reverse grid run.
This may actually work now due to there being 3 races instead of 2. Would have to be implemented for the 3rd/final race.

VVV worm wrote:As cool as Rusty's idea is for the clutch start I couldn't do it on my wheel very well. The "A" button is far enough away on the CSR Elite and such a pain to get to that I have to lift my hand off the rim. This wasn't as much of a problem with previous wheels and I don't have my handbrake swapped because of the ACL firmware.
It would prove even more difficult in FWD. As soon as I drop the clutch and hit the gas the wheel is going to jerk really hard to one side and I'll only have one hand on it.
I guess if you're using the clutch on the wheel, you don't have the elite pedals then? Just out of curiosity, if gear changing (assume you're using the clutch) whilst racing is OK, what is the difference that will make it harder than regular shifting? I assume you'd hold the car on the foot brake, not handbrake, and just release that and the clutch at the same time on "go".

Thec0rps3 and CQR Senna and Dogskii have also done it but i've never heard them say anything.
Its a good point to bring up though!

I do clutch and standing starts a lot on FM4. I always though the standard CSR pedals had 3 pedals.
Looking forward to trying this out tomorrow.

Do we have a confirmed time for the test tomorrow?

Rusty, thanks for being so helpful. Trust me, we don't want to have any animosity between two series. I think it shows how much we don't want to have any issues by including you into our test regime.
Re: TCC Season 7 (Q1 2013) Testing - Phase 2 Open - *** Car List & Testing Instructions on Page 1 ***
Possibly about 8pm, not too sure.

Cheers Richy - I'll keep an eye open for a test lobby.

All you do is pick a distance. 25ft apart
Re: TCC Season 7 (Q1 2013) Testing - Phase 2 Open - *** Car List & Testing Instructions on Page 1 ***
You cannot run your clutch on the "B" button with the ACL or you e-brake every time you shift. I do not have to hit the clutch button, it is configured to engage when I shift from being on the "A" button.
I also have Clubsport Pedals and the clutch isn't even on there anymore. It was useless and too close to the brake so I took it off.

Why does it have to be so difficult anyhow? We add all these rules to spice things up and inevitably someone gets pissed off at the process. What is so wrong with telling people "don't go until the pole sitter goes"?
You know if a start is jumped and the guy doesn't have to state a time or say 3,2,1 or any crap like that. No one in the real world stands on top of their car and lets everyone know when they are going to take off then jumps back in and watches their little stop watch.
Makes zero sense to me why rolling starts are made more complicated than they have to be.

tbh I think with the kind of environment we have here the grid start would be welcomed with open arms. Sometimes it's good to try new things, thi could add a lot more importance the to the drivers start, rather than just holding the accelerator during the lobby countdown to go.

I think wait for the test tomorrow and see how it goes
Re: TCC Season 7 (Q1 2013) Testing - Phase 2 Open - *** Car List & Testing Instructions on Page 1 ***
Surely this is just about investigating how things could be improved to give people a more enjoyable and realistic experience - if the human race never looked to improve we'd still be living in caves
Re: TCC Season 7 (Q1 2013) Testing - Phase 2 Open - *** Car List & Testing Instructions on Page 1 ***
But you aren't understanding the point is my damn hand cannot reach that far over. I'm at an immediate disadvantage and it's really pointless for me to even race. The only way I can get my hand over to the "A" button to actually press it in consistently is to raise my shoulder and claw grip the wheel with two fingers on either side and use my thumb to press the button.
How many restarts and all out bs are you going to have to deal with when someone misses or stalls and everyone piles into the back of them? What happens when two people do it side by side and the field crams into them or the tiny space between them? That 10 minutes to quit, restart the lobby, hope it doesn't lock up your game, run another pace lap, and restart everything is going to be a huge kick in the balls to everyone.
You can investigate all you want Jono but when a competitor is at a disadvantage before the race begins and it's still cast off as nothing your evolution is really a devolution isn't it?

You don't have to press the clutch button at all though:-
- Complete the parade lap and park in your grid slot.
- On coming to a halt apply the handbrake (ensure the handbrake/e-brake is assigned to B button) and continue to hold B
- Put the car in reverse
- Put the car in 1st and hold down the paddle - this keeps the clutch engaged
- When the lights go green you release the B button and up shift paddle and off you go
I and many other wheel users have done clutch starts in this way and have never shown to have had a disadvantage.
If this was a brand new idea I'd be as sceptical as you Worm - however it's been in use elsewhere for years with great success. Give it a go - you may be surprised!

That sounds simple enough. *sarcasm*
You really think it is wise to institute a rule that requires people to do that?
I think when Le Mans comes up everyone should be required to set up a stream in their room and record themselves on the other end at a required distance. Controller/wheel in the middle and on the go mark everyone should have to sprint into their rooms, grab it up, do the clutch drop technique and go.
I mean really? Do we have to over complicate everything when all you have to do is tell someone to go when the leader does?

What do they say about sarcasm - something about it being the lowest form of wit isn't it
Changing gears on a pad when using manual with clutch sounds complicated in written instructions - it soon becomes second nature after a bit of practice though.
This is a suggestion made by others to improve the currently pathetic way Forza deals with standing starts......it's nothing to do with rolling starts!
I don't want this to descend in to a tit-for-tat argument, I've got 2 kids for that. All I've tried to do is highlight that it's perfectly easy to perform a standing clutch start with a Fanatec wheel without using a clutch pedal - I've done so by sharing my own personal experience from doing such starts numerous times with no problems or disadvantage whatsoever.
Ultimately the decision won't be mine or yours and will hopefully be made after some investigation and actual practice by various people and controllers - in keeping with the extensive work that's been carried out so far.

Actually sarcasm requires the use of the parts of your brain that are the highest functions of it. It isn't solely based on language since you have to understand the mental state of whomever you're speaking to for it to resonate. Language and emotions are processed in that part of the brain. That term was likely created by someone who was always the victim of sarcasm and not witty enough to reply (unlike you just did).
I retained something from college! Today a small victory was made.

They also say "every day's a school day" - you've proved that one to be correct!
You may have won a small victory regarding sarcasm but you're still wrong about the standing starts though

No I'm not!
Seems we have two children here as well. An I'm right, no I'm right fight is going to break out in a minute. Wait until I sling some food across the pond at your ass.
